Anyone else still fatigued?

I had a period of time between 3 months and 6 months post op that I felt really good.  Increased energy, etc.   BUT man ever since and to this day..........18 months later I still drag myself out of bed and could use a nap.    My labs have all been good.   I eat right and get in all my protein and water.     I go to the surgeon for a check up on Monday, but was curious to get your thoughts and experiences.

I've been at or below goal for a 12 months now.

I don't exercise like I should because I just don't have the energy.

So many things could be causing your fatigue that it is hard to say what the problem is. I hope your surgeon can pin point the problem.

Here are some things I found on the web that cause fatigue.

Are you getting enough sleep? Were you ever tested for sleep apnea and depression?

Are you trying to do too much? I was a single mom with four kids and a full-time job. Talk about exhaustion.

Have you had your thyroid tested? You could have hypothyroidism.

Are your iron levels okay? You could be anemic.

Do you drink? If you do, stop. Even a little can interfere with your sleep.

What drugs are you taking? Is fatigue a side-affect of any of them?

Do you take a B12 supplement? Or maybe your iron is low? Perhaps you should get some bloodwork done...

You need a full blood draw.  All sorts of deficiencies can cause fatigue and even depression (not that you necessarily are depressed, just a point of reference).

i agree with everyone here. everyone's post is so true.

you need a full blood work done to see how ALL your vitamins levels are. I also had my labs done and they told me that my blood work was FINE. It wasn't. 2 months went by, i had another blood test done.... sure enough... my labs came back saying my vitamin B1 was low.  Now i take Vitamin B1 - 100 mg every single day and i feel alot better.   So, make sure you get a FULL work up on all your vitamins. Perhaps then you can see if you are lacking in any vitamins... Also your Electrolytes maybe off as well. This can also make you feel very tired and have no enegry. Drinking a enegry drink like - POWDERade Zero sports drink ...will help you.

Keep in mind, exercising, not getting enough PLAIN water throughout the day, NOT eating eating and not eating right and NOT getting enough carbs - can also make you feel this way as well. The *GOOD* Carbs gives you enegry - we need carbs to help us- Carbs are NOT evil-- As the day goes by , decrease your carb intake as we do not need the enegry anymore because we are going to bed.... my last carb intake is about 3pm-ish. and i am done. i eat a good dinner with protein -  chicken/fish/turkey - and a small salad. and that is all. no carbs....for dinner.

just some thoughts to think about

good luck
Lizzy

This is not normal...have a complete vitamin panel done. Some doctors don't do it unless you hound them! How's your protein? are you getting enough in daily? Vitamins...are you faithfully taking them? What color are your gums and tongue?? If they are pale, you need some iron. Have those b vitamins checked.

Good luck to you! Oh..and working out really does give you more energy!

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!

I struggled with low energy for quite some time - and my labs were always perfect.
I switched to a high potency b12 sublingual (from target) that I take *daily* I swallow it instead of sitting it under my tongue...it may all be in my head but it seems to work excellent, I also take a b6 with it (pill form) every day.
I started to stick with a low glycemic index diet, I noticed certain foods were making me very sleepy... I food logged how foods were making me feel to weed out the culprits and either cut them out or cut back on the amount in a serving. I also make sure to eat every few hours and get in lean protein and fiber to help with the energy. I make sure I do protein at each and every snack because they helps me keep regulated as well. I found increasing my protein also seemed to help and making sure to eat a balanced diet with lots of veggies in it.

My doc ordered some labs today --- just to be sure.    Actually I learned something about B12 today - taking it daily does not help us and it actually can mask poor folic acid level results.   I had started taking the b12 daily too and the doc and nut said no.........only twice a week.  It does nothing, but potentially mask a folic acid issue otherwise.   UGH.   Also,  just an fyi -- I had tried just swallowing the B12 too and I was advised that we need the make up in the saliva to activate and break it down properly.    Just passing along info --- everyone seems to have a different answer/take on B12.    The food diary is a good idea.  I think Ill see if I can find any culpurates.   I eat plenty of protein and veggies, but maybe something is off balance.

My aunt is a nurse and is the one who suggested swallowing - granted she doesnt know a lot about WLS... I am further out and its my understanding that over time our pouches start to produce more stomach acid so maybe thats why it works for me? Who knows, I have labs done every 6 months and so far so good, Ill have labs done again around November... Ill just keep waiting out and see what happens - I think Docs are pretty clueless when it comes to a lot of things and its a lot of trial and error.
Interesting about the folic acid... I will research that today :-)
