In response to "night syndrom eating" post.

The little bit of research I've done says some consider it an eating disorder, some consider it a sleep disorder...or perhaps a mixture of both. I read more about it on an eating disorder site, and they put it in the same category of disorders such as bulimia, anorexia and overeating. They gave no clear cut solutions, but it was interesting to read.

I bought these "diet cookies" you can find them at "dietcookie.com" They are an appetiite suppressant food and actually taste pretty good! The last two nights I would eat one right before bed and then when I wake up have one by my bedside and eat it. Since I've done this (only two nights so far) I've only waken up that once and consumed that one 90 calorie "diet cookie"... the appetite suppresant conmponant must be helping me get through the night better. I'm using them during the day to help control my appteite as well, so I just save two for the night time, only 180 calories (for two)  to help curb the night time eating, which is better then the sometimes, oh i don't know, maybe 1000 calories I can pack in a night sometimes.

So I don't know if anyone has any answers to this disorder yet, or if it's just recognized as such...so I just need to find ways to manage it to the best of my ability so it doesn't effect my sleep or weight mananagment efforts as severely.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I dunno if it's the same idea...but I sleep soooo much better if I have a little carb snack just before bed...I usually make it a fruit and that works well...a handful of blueberries or strawberries or a plum are perfect and curb any hunger just long enough to fall asleep...I've been trying to get all my water in at least a few hours before I hit the bed or I'm up peeing and checking email and...sometimes I can't fall back to sleep after that and that leads to wanting to eat again!  So I totally relate!

I was grazing all night lst night before bed...NOTHING was satisfying...It's my TOM and that's just the absolute worst time for me...I cannot control my urge to munch...AT ALL!  So I always have lowfat crunchy stuff because that's all that seems to satisfy is the crunch...

Good luck...If you find something...let us know!

When I first read about this Night Time Eating Syndrome on here, I started crying.  This was me.  It's something I've been doing for 15 years now.  I thought it was just a bad habit that I needed to try and break.  When I wake up, most of the time, my stomach is literally growling and all I can think about it relieving the pressure to eat something.

I read that I probably have lower melatonin levels, higher cortisol levels, and a screwed up leptin level.  I ordered some sublingual melatonin and took it last night.  I slept so much better, but still woke up wanting something to eat at the same times I always wake up.  1:00 a.m, 3:00 a.m., and 5:00 a.m., like clock work.  Logically, I know a lot of my problem is habit.  I'm going to work extra hard to try and make a change.  If I can cut back to once a night, it would be a major decrease on calories.

Thanks for listening.

totally, even cutting back to once a night will make a HUGE difference. some nights I would get up almost every hour! No wonder I was sleeping all day and had so little energy. These "diet cookies" really have been helping me, if I eat one right before bed, with water (cause I think it swells to help you feel full) and then I have water and a "cookie" on my nightstand for when I wake up.. it seems to hold me over, so I'm waking up every 4 hrs, instead of every hour.

I don't know what the solution is..but yeah, being aware is the first step, maybe there's no "cure" for it, but if we can learn to manage it, we can save ourselves a LOT of calories! It's just so frustrating to be perfect all day, just to blow it during the night when I  literally seem to have NO control. So I save enough calories to haev my two or there 90 calorie cookies during the night...so far it's working. I'm trying a new product called fullbar, it's supposed to help you feel full...they're cheaper than the diet cookies so I'll let ya know how those go once I get my order in.

It's so nice to talk with someone on here that can relate to this dilemma.  I've been trying to keep my snack under 100 calories each time I wake up, but that still can add up if I wake up 2 times.  Sometimes, it's hard for me to stay within my calories during the day, so these night time eating sessions have to STOP!!  Or least get cut back.
