Loss of an OH member
I've had five obstructions.
I check all the boards every morning before I go about my "life" looking for any sign of someone asking about abdominal pain, etc.
Losing Vickie has been extremely difficult for me. I feel like I "lost one" and one is too many. I understand my limits. I understand the entire concept. I understand she was on vacation, etc. etc. etc. but this loss has been very difficult for me.
If I didn't have the excellent surgeon that I have (and I had to travel to LA from TX to have him care for me), I'd be dead -- a few times over. Literally. My surgeon has listened to me and saved my life many more times than it should be. I can only pray that I am like a cat and have NINE lives.
Abdominal illness is the most difficult to diagnosis. Out of five, only ONE showed on a CT Scan -- the others were found exploratory. Once, I was literally 24 hours away from perforating and had I been in Houston, I'd be dead.
No matter, pain is a signal that something is NOT right. Push for investigation.
Obstructions caused by adhesions, will not typically show on a CT Scan, Xray, etc. I have nearly typed my fingers off trying to explain this. Hernias bounce in and out. They are difficult to catc on scans as well.
You may save your own life!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who will save your life if you won't??????????
KNOW YOUR BODY AND KEEP YOUR OWN LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so sad. :-(
I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side. The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

Thank you for all sharing your fond memories of Vickie and heartfelt condolences for her family. In a few days or so I will print this thread so that I can pass it on to Vickie's husband Garry. I'm certain it will comfort him to know how special Vickie was to everyone on the WLS grads board.

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries. That's why I had a DS!
