MOLLY--have questions for you!!

Happy Wednesday to you,

I have read your posts and thank you for sharing your journey with us!!  You look great!!

Here are my questions--
A little over a week ago I started the "Wagon" plan.  It has worked great for me so far.  I have lots more energy and don't get hungry at all.  I do (and probably always will) deal with head hunger at times but I know how to distract myself and work past it.

I know that your nutritional advice/education does vary slightly from what James has posted.  He did list eating sugar and simple carbs.  I DO NOT do sugar at all.  I honestly haven't tried it since my surgery 19 months ago.  The reason I had the surgery was because I was a diabetic with very high blood sugars (A1C of 11!!).  I don't even give myself the choice to even try a little bite!!

I am getting very interested in learning more about how the body works--what helps it/what works against it.  I still have about 15 lbs. I want to lose.  At 19 months out I know that I have to have a plan (for life) and stick with it.  I have started walking again.  I usually use a DVD.  8 days ago all I could do was 1 mile.  Today I walked 2 miles and used stretchy bands with it.

I would love to have you post regarding what has worked for you--both nutrition and exercise.  I am certainly not a body builder and, for right now with the closet gym is 15 miles away, don't see myself being able to work out with fitness equipment.  My workout will have to consist of a DVD and inexpensive home fitness equipment.

I thank James for introducing me to the Wagon plan and helping me get back on track.  I don't think any of us will ever have the final work on nutrition or exercise.  And my post is not to imply that I am "leaving James and going to you!!"  I know we can all learn from each other.  The more informed I am, the easier it will be for me to apply the principals to my life and get a plan that works specifically for me.

I look forward to reading your information and any links you may have to other resources.

I am leaving for vacation around noon so if I don't respond immediately, that is why.  I will check OH when I get to my destination.

Have a great day and thank you soooo much!!

Robin

Hi Robin!

I only have a few minuets but I just wanted to say hi to you.

First of all, i am in NO way any type of guru or motivational expert. I don't have any cool systems or catchy ideas. My junk is boring, lol.

Let me tell you what works for me:
Eating according to my BMR
Logging it all on Fitday.com throughout the day. Sometimes the day before to play my meals.
Eating 6 small meals throughout the day. Stuff like this would be a meal:

Wake up: coffee or something else hot to get body going

Meal One:  1 egg, 2 egg whites + 1 piece whole wheat toast

Meal Two: 2 scoops protein powder + 12 oz water + 1 c frozen berries

Meal Three:  4oz turkey burger + 1 c broccoli, steamed

Meal Four: 2 scoops protein powder + 12 oz water +2 frozen strawberries (while making dinner)

Meal Five:  Parmesean Tuna Cake  with mozzerella on top+ Baby spinach leaves salad

Meal Six: 1/2 apple + 1 Tablespoon peanut butter

Boring YES! But it works great. Each meal has a source of lean protein and a source of slow burning carbs. There are also healthy fats in there. If you are familiar with South Beach, I kind of eat like that. They have great recipes which are perfect for us.

Anyway, I am NO Expert. I just stick to the rules and workout. I don't drink with meals I don't really eat sugar unless I'm messing up real bad, lol. . I LOVE to lift weights. You can buy a very simple, inexpensive pair of dumbells to start off with, Then each time you're at your favorite big box store like Wal-Mart, you can add to your collection.

Also, are you a member of the yahoo grads group? I get their emails and pick up lots of tips.

Have a great trip!
Molly

Oh yeah! I almost forgot... When i get off track, like I also did last year, I do the 5 day pouch test as a way of "resetting" my brain to the correct mode for success.

I don't approach it as a way to lose weight, although I do, but rather to get back in control while ridding my house of trigger foods, any problem areas of my diet are addressed this way.

It doesn't sound like you have a problem with sugar as you haven't tried it. WOW! You are MY hero. That is so cool and I commend you for practicing 100% abstainence. I can guarantee you will have long tern success with discipline like that.

More later!
