How Are You Maintaining Your Weight? Sample Menu??
I eat several times a day, partly because of hypoglycemia and partly just because I like to eat. My usual day goes like this: 5:45 a.m. - fried egg on 1 slice double-fiber wheat bread; 8:45 a.m. - Weight Smart oatmeal; 10:45 a.m. - Fiber One bar; 12:15 p.m. - 3/2/1 protein/veg/carb lunch (varies); 2:30 p.m. - Kashi bar; 4:30 p.m. - Gnu bar; 6:00 p.m. - 3/2/1 protein/veg/carb supper (varies); 8:00 p.m. - colon blast or apple. Sometimes I'll eat peanut butter on double-fiber wheat bread instead of one of those bars. So far, it seems to be working, along with a good bit of exercise.
I went and had a metabolism test to find out how many calories I needed - my NUTs maintenance plan calls for 30% protein, 40% carbs, 30% fat so I built my plan from all that information. Personally I eat 3 meals and 3-4 small snacks... thats pretty much how Ive always eaten thou - I started out doing 3 meals 2 snacks but with my current calorie goals I had to add the additional snacks in order to meet.
I basically follow this type of eating plan http://www.womansday.com/health/11698/getting-started.html you can modify it for different calorie goals and its very WLS friendly. After my metabolism test I needed help figuring out a menu and came across the one above and it has worked out great for me. I need to eat 1400-1800 calories so the servings change but I stick to the 30/40/30 plan... here is the basic idea thou.
1400 calories
10 servings protein
5 servings bread/starch
2 servings fruit
5 (or more) servings vegetables
2 servings lowfat dairy
5 servings fat

Look at the accountability thread daily....See how different we all are! It's insane! We list our food choices, and nuritonal facts for each food by journaling out daily intake....I am 165 lbs and very active 4 out of 7 days a week...I maintain at 1500 calories average. I lose weight at 1000 calories and I gain at 2000...I learned this the long hard way by journaling my food for 6 months. When I am inactive (Which I was forced to for health reasons) I had to cut back my calories to near 1000-1300 at the most...or I gained weight with no exercise allowed. It was hard , but it kept me from gaining until I could get healthy and begin my nornal very active summer life (winter I am as lazy as a bear in a cave) I HATE The cold!
It's a great thread to read for ideas too. We are all diferent sizes and eat vastly different calories and foods. But we find what works for us and we learned that journaling is a great and awesome method to control our weight...

I'll be 3 yrs out in August.
I eat about 3 meals a day, many times breakfast is an EAS protein drink. If I have a small meatball sub for lunch( for example), I toss the bread. Or I have a bowl of soup and salad. Sometimes I have a couple peices of chicken ( fried on the bone) with some veggies. I eat only a small amount of bread. I eat a couple of chips or crackers at times, or a banana or cantaloupe as a snack. For dinner I have any kind of cooked meat with a veggie and sometimes rice or potatoes. Generally, I eat very small portions, and I stay full for a while. I try to eat yogurt for digestion every night, and occasionally have a bowl of soup if I'm up late.Hmmmm...looking at what I'm typing, maybe I eat more times a day than I was thinking! But I don't feel a bowl of tomato soup is a meal. I never feel like eating cookies or ice cream any more, and I used to binge on those things.
I have no clue on calories, and recently found out my protein is too low. So I guess I'll up the EAS, and eat more meat and cheese. I can hold more than I could the first yr out, but still probably less than a cup of food, unless it's salad and soup.
I think I would rather eat vegetables, but I don't seem to get enough protein from them.
