The Wagon Plan
Here is a ? for James H., and/or anyone currently on the Wagon Plan:
My BMR is 1300. According to the plan, in order to lose 1-2 lbs/week, I should decrease my caloric intake to 900. To do the calorie cycle, there will be some days where the intake is only 700 calories. At what point will my body go into "starvation mode"? Is there a magical number for that?

Hey Patti!
I am NOT on the Wagon thing at all. I know about calorie cycling. Is this what James is reccomending?
He is 7 months out.
You are almost 3 years out!
Calorie cycling is awesome for hard core athletes (body buiders who are cutting for a competition, ect) but I really don't think it is sound advice for us.
What do you think? 900-700 calories a day does not seem like a sustainable diet for someone at our stage!
My BMR is around 1500. I am usually VERY active and dedicated to lifting weights and sweating my butt off in the gym 6 days a week. If I keep my caloric intake (tracked on fitday.com) around 1300 and drink a ton of water my fat MELTS off!!!
No ice cream, hash browns, cookies, low fat mufins, ect!!! Just good, sound 6 small meals a day that ALWAYS consists of a slow burning carb (like a veggie or a whole grain toast) and a lean dense protein.

I've been here since 2002, I just like to pretend I am NEW!
I know that when I had my metabolic testing completed, my BMR was 1300. My doctor said that part of the formula was to add 500 calories to cover movement of any kind (walking to the car, in the office, grocery shopping etc) since the BMR measures how many calories we burn doing absolutely nothing. So that would have meant 1800 calories. If I eat 1300, I am actually having a 500 calorie deficit so that I could lose 1 lb per week.
Check with your doc or who ever did you metabolic study. They can clarify your questions.
I hope that helps.
