6 years out and can't seem to lose
I finally decided to come back to my old stomping grounds and see who else is having the same experience I'm having. I had Roux-en_Y surgery a little over 6 years ago. I started at 354 and got down to a low of 168, but over the last 3 years, I've slowly gained back up to a high of 214. I did join the Biggest Loser club in January and managed to lose down to 198.8, but I have remained jumping between this weight and 204 for about 3 months now. I do pretty good abou****ching what I eat and I do get daily exercise and most days get 10,000 steps in.
What advice does anyone have for me to at least get back to the 170s, although I never got to my goal weight of 150. I can't stand the thought of me failing this surgery.
Hi,
I, too, am back for the support from this site. I was 5 years post-op last week and have regained 50 lb. of the 130 I had originally lost. Someone suggested yesterday that I try the 5 day pouch test and today is my 2nd day of liquids. It's much harder this time since after surgery I didn't feel like eating anyway, but now I want the food.
I realized just yesterday, though, that I have to stop now and begin the process of losing this regain weight.
Like someone reminded me yesterday, it is harder now, but still very possible. I congratulate you on your success and the motivation to continue trying. Together we can do this.
If it makes it any easier, concentrate on the fact that it is only 30 or so pounds you are attempting and not the 50 lbs. I've got. When you lose your 30 (and you will), I'll still have 20 more to go.
Keep fighting. You'll get there.

Good luck to you. Let's do this thing.

I suggest getting a metabolism test to find out what *your* body needs - once you have a calorie goal then take that to a NUT to help you build an eating plan or google different plans to follow (I found a great one on womansday.com that was WLS friendly). Typically most weightloss plans call for 40% protein, 30% carbs, 30% fat so you could breakdown your calories yourself and follow that if you so choose.
I wouldnt focus so much on the numbers that hitting a weight you can easily maintain - I think thats the most important... you dont want to hit a weight that you have to struggle to maintain or keep bouncing up and down in weight. I would focus on eating well, feeling well and exercising and let the weight loss follow behind that. Either way I would NOT say you are a failure - comming from 354lbs you are doing excellent at 6 years out.. you did get back up to 214 but you got that under control and got back to 198.8... even thou you hit a low of 168 your regain has been slight compared to how much weight you lost.

I had a regain after my two pregnancies.. and needed to get back in gear. I've done so, but it hasn't been a walk in the park.
The first step I'd say is start journaling again. The 2nd is to start going back to actual support meetings. I know SS has theirs towards the beginning of the month and welcome anyone who wishes to attend.. There's a meeting in Raleigh on Saturday if you're willing to make the trek. Getting back in touch with people face-to-face is ultimately better than just online support.
On March 1st, I weighed 270. Yesterday (haven't weighed today!) I was at 217. And not all of that is from the most recent baby.. I've not been in these numbers since I was pregnant with #1.
It can be done. If you need any more help, or assistance, or hey, just encouragement, lemme know.
