How do YOU know??????

Ok, this has been on my mind for a month or so.  My first meeting with my surgeon I set my personal goal at 150.  At 9 months I got there and kept on going.  So then I dropped it to 140.  Past that up in Sept.  I decided at 130 that I liked it there and tried to maintain.  It's all good.  Well, I am now down to 122.  I see no difference then at 130.  SO...my mind is playing head games again.  Clothes fit the same.  I am not complaining or trying to rub anything in....I am simply asking how YOU PERSONALLY "know" I am at where I want to be????  Did you get there and change your mind(like me)???  ANything???

Personally  I think your body decides where its going to be happy!  you might want to be tracking your  nutitional  intake - add  carbs if your wanting to maintain.   as long as labs look good go with it ..  but talk to your Dr if you think your getting too thin.

I didn't set a goal. My surgeon did and it was LOW...But I'm there and hovering right around there for over a year now so he must have been right.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6

My surgeon never set a goal for me so at my 6mth appt I finally asked him. After some thinking and jotting figures down on paper he felt 165lbs was his "goal" for me (i'm 5'9"). I personally wanted to get to 150lbs and did accomplish that within the first 2yrs after surgery. I am comfortable maintaining between 150-159lbs (although I like the lower 150's better). this gives me room to be able to enjoy life a little while still staying within a range that's manageable. I, like you, have played the head games of 10lbs less and 10lbs less all my life, so I had to break that cycle for myself. Of course, once I got to 150lbs I thought "hmmm, now if I could drop down into the 140's I'd be so happy" but I have finally realized that dropping down lower and lower is not the goal. The goal is to be health no matter what the weight and for me to get to 140 or 130 I would have to put my body into an unhealthy state. I believe our bodies pick the weight that is right for us and for you it sounds like your body is happy at a lower weight than your dr recommended~I think that's fine as long as your healthy and strong!

My surgeon didn't set a goal for me.  My personal goal was below 150, a normal BMI.  I didn't think I would get there, but I did.  I just kept doing what I had been doing all along, and my weight dropped to the low 130's and has stayed there.  One day I just stopped losing weight.  I feel physically strong and healthy, my labs are good.  I can honestly say I am not depriving myself in any way nutritionally.  I eat a very well balanced diet, from all the food groups. So, the short answer, I think your body has set its own goal.  As long as you are healthy, and not doing any head games with food deprivation (eating disorder), then I wouldn't worry about your weight or goal being too low.  My friends didn't tell me to my face they thought I looked too thin, I kind of heard about it second hand, but it doesn't bother me at all.  I may look thin for a middle-aged Midwestern old married lady, but I am very, very happy with how I look.  Now I have to work at keeping my weight where I want, those carbs still call my name. My doctor said I'd get to 186, whcih would be loss of 70% of my excess weight. I wanted to get to 170. Imagine my surprise when I hit the 120's. I don't know why some of us lose more than others. I was a long way from a light weight (340 pounds) so that wasn't' the cause. I sort of hate to see people set goals, because nobody really knows what to expect and I hate seeing people get disappointed when they don't lose as much as somebody else.

I don't know what your height is but as long as you don't fall below the minimum BMI for your height, I think you'll be fine. I wouldn't worry too much. You're doing great.

Personally, I went by my BMI. I wanted it to be right in the middle. Other than that, yes, there was a magic number that when I got low enough--and invariably bounced around 3-5#'s like I always do (even pre-op), I did not freak out. I was still low enough to feel "safe" and comfortable. So that let me know I was where I needed to be. Congratulations on your loss!
