I am 4 years post-op(RNY), and only occasionaly have had some reflux (less than once a month).  About 2 months ago, I started getting hoarse.  My PCP referred me to an ENT doctor, who said my vocal chords are inflaimed from reflux!  Has anyone else had this problem?  I never have heart burn, but the reflux is getting worse and keeps me up at night.  I tried over the counter prilosec but it didn't help.  My PCP just called in some protonics, so I'll see if that  helps. I don't get it - I thought we didn't have acid in our pouch. My throat feels raw.  Help! Thanks! Terri

I'm pretty sure that my surgeon said that all the acid producers were cut off, but I have "some type" of indigestion pretty regularly.  None of the otc acid reducers work. My endocrinologist (who did all the follow-up after surgery) suggested that I was filling my pouch too full and the actual food was backing up! That sounds gross, I know, but sometimes we simply must discuss gross things!! LOL I had good success with prescription Carafate. My doctor prescribed it and it does pretty well. It is a liquid which coats the  stomach. He described it as "Pepto Bismol on steroids"!! Hope you get some relief soon. Hugs,  Piggybabe
