grad board - how is it different?

this is the first time i have been to the grad board looks interesting how is it different from the main board? do most of you guys post here regularly? why here instead of the main board? please - fill me in kf

I find the smaller boards friendlier.  The main board can be like playing in traffic.  I've never had any problems, but sometimes I am amazed at the attitudes that come out!  I don't post here often, but I read the posts here just about every day.  It's a great group of people!  I think you will like it here. thanks i am looking forward to getting to know you guys i read the first page of the main board almost everyday it helps keep me focused but, i think that there are a lot of newbies on the main board and i would like to hear what some people have to say that have been around for a while kf

Hi Kim, Welcome to the grads board, I think we're a pretty pleasant bunch.  As the OH staff say in their post, this board is for people who are one year or more postop.  Why?  I hang out here because on the main board there are alot of preops and very recent ops who have questions that don't pertain to me much anymore.  At one year, grads know what to eat and when to eat it (even if we don't do it sometimes).  Issues tend to be more about how to reach goal, how to maintain goal, or support needed to lose some regain.  Long term health issues conversation are common, ie vitamin deficiency problems, anemia, osteopenia.  These probably aren't issues for those who are new.  Yes, there are many long term posters on the main board, and that is great, as they have lots of wisdom for the newbies.  It's just easier for me to find what pertains most to me here.  And, as a side note, there is alot less drama, people tend to be pretty mellow here. Posting regularly?  This is where I post the most, some months frequently, sometimes just lurking.  There are quite a few wonderful people on this board, whose opinions I respect. Debra M.

thanks for your input debra i didnt EVEN see the "board purpose" post at the top until you pointed it out - i guess i just read right over it i came here for several reasons but, primarily because i seem to be doing "just enough" to get by i havent reached my goal - i have even gone up a few pounds - but, have been fairly stable for weeks/months so, i thought hanging out with some more "mature" folks might help i have seen a lot of old timers so to speak on the main board but, thought i might hang out here for a while i have heard people talk about the drama that happens on the main board but,  i have never been in on any of it so, i dont really know what it's all about - and like you - i dont really care i appreciate you taking time to reply kf

I hang out here to help the newly grads and myself. I consider this my primary support group. I hang out on the RNY board to help the pre-ops and newly post-ops get through the rough times. Encouraging others helps me most...Keeps me focused and out of trouble.  Some here are having issues with losing their last few pounds. Some are below goal (like me) and looking for that balance of OCD and relaxation. Some have had babies and have gained...Each of us has our fears and hurdles...We're all about encouragement...At least I think I am. I may appear as different than that but it's my intention to be encouraging.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

i have litterally been eating all day compulsively i wish i could throw up i have been verging on overeating for days and kindof escalating in ways but, right now i am nauseated and miserable will i ever learn i cant throw up i dont know why i wish i could feel better kf

"i cant throw up i dont know why" It sounds like what was in the pouch is past it. Was it mainly slider foods? Are you eating dense stuff like meat too?  Slider food is stuff like pudding that goes through the pouch quickly. Even if I eat too much of that I feel nauseated but can't throw up cuz it's already gone by the time the sensation gets to my brain.

I like to say that I'm like that puppy that needs the newspaper to the nose...I need to learn the hard way too. Newspaper to the nose, reminds me what I need to remember...NO Sugar. NO Fat..
