Hi Everyone, If anyone has read my posts in the past, after my surgery I ended up with acid reflux. As I told everyone I take Prilosec OTC twice everyday.  It works but I still don't eat that much, because most of the time everything I eat bothers me.  That is probably why I lost so much weight so fast.  Well anyway,  I was told by a few people at my job, that Prevacid is better.  I was just wondering is this true?  IF anyone can tell me whether I should go with Prilosec Or Prevacid???

I have never taken Prilosec ...But Pre op I had the worst acid reflux with my hiatal hernia...It was just awful...My throat was so burned by acid...I was on prevacid script...It was the MOST amazing relief I ever felt from any other drug...It even gave my throat time to heal...The doc did biopsies of the scar tissue it was so bad...But they always come back good... After surgery...I never had heart burn again....But there are days when I get an ache in the pit of my pouch and I keep waiting for an eruption but it never comes...I just open a capsule and swallow the little pellets(even though they are time release, they WORK!!!)  and within seconds that feeling stops...I get that every once in a blue moon...Prevacid was the only thing that worked and gave my stomach and throat time to heal...I have NO IDEA what happened to my hernia during or after WLS... If you can get on prevacid, I'd try it...Because like I said...it was the ONLY relief I ever got...

Hi Anita, Thank you for the info.  I am not sure my Insurance company will approve it, but I hope so.  My doctor called in a Prescription for Prevacid, I am waiting for an approval.  I hope I can get it.  Like I said everyone I know says Prevacid is really good.

Sorry about the late reply. Both meds are basically the same.  Prevacid is the newer version of Prilosec. They are both PPIs (protein pump inhibitors).. as is Axid.  Zantac is a different type of acid reducer.. works on a different acid pump. Maybe this helped?
