I Eat Carbs I Eat Carbs I Eat Carbs

Maybe if I keep telling myself that it will sink in. O.K so I got LOTS of great advice from everyone on the Carbs post from yesterday. I combined that with my experience of this last year. MY experience? I have done the atkins induction at least 10 times this last year, each time losing about 10 lbs, so I've lost about 100 lbs right??? WRONG I'm now 40 lbs heavier then I was a year ago. I'm learning "extremes" like trying to stay under 20 carbs are simply not maintainable for me for more than a few days. So I am going to eat carbs, but I'm going to make sure I also get in over 100 grams of protein. I don't think I'll go as high as my trainer wants with 50% carbs, I don't think I coudl do that and still get all my protein in. But I'm liking the 97 grams carbs 43 crams fat and 130 grams protein, that sounds like a really healthy balance to me. And I also like the idea of balancing my carbs and protein out. The 15:7 ratio makes sense to me, So my carbs should never be over 100 grams and I can always eat MORE protein then the 7 grams per 15 carbs, but that' sjust the minimum of protein I need with those carbs to keep the blood levels stable. SO. I'm going to tweak my diet a little, and instead of just counting calories and trying to stay under 20 carbs, I'm going to try what I just wrote above.

this is going to be difficult for me..because I am in such a mindset that ALL carbs are BAD even too much broccli is baaaaaad!! I'll let ya all know how I do end of the week with this.

p.s, yes I started the 5dpt AGAIN but it feels like what I've always done, the extreme thing for quick results. So once again, I've decided not to do it. Just so you all know where I'm at with that... I'm going to go for slow and steady this time, 2 lbs a week seems SOOO slow after what we're used to...but I'd rather lose 2 lbs a week at a steady pace t hen gain 20 more lbs in the nexxt 6 months!

Leslee, I agree, you have to find what works for you.  I am terrible at counting everything.  Terrible!  I just can't do it.  For me, I think that makes it worse.  I tend to focus on the food and forget about everything else.  Now that said, is just me.  I have to listen to my tummy.  You find what works and go with it.  It is nice outside, at least where I am, so I am going to go out and do some fun stuff.  Make it a great day:)

I don't count carbs or anything else, but if I gain some weight I cut out potatoes and white things, and the weight comes back off. It helps to stick to wheat bread (I like Nature's Own double-fiber wheat bread), brown rice, and wheat pasta (look to be sure it's got at least 5 gm of fiber). Those of us with blood sugar problems really benefit from the change, even if we're not trying to lose pounds. I'm just not much of an advocate of cutting out carbs completely, but think it's better to make lifestyle changes that you can live with. Try to be patient (easier said than done), and this time next year those extra pounds will be gone and you'll be feeling great.

Leslee, One thing you might want to think about is what is your plan after the 5 day?  I find that's where my system breaks down---I'll do the 5 dpt or the 10 day liquid and do real well but then I have no plan for day 6 (or 11) so my great weight loss gets piddled away.

I try and concentrate first on protein and then on GOOD CARBS not white carbs. I don't like the way bread, pasta or rice make me feel and sugar makes me feel even worse.  Shoot for the over 100 grams of protein a day. I think that's a very reachable goal and see where the carbs are. If you are eating 200 grams of carbs for the 100 grams of protein, that's not a good thing, IMO. but tweek it and see what you feel like. I'm all about how it makes you feel (which sounds stupid but if eating something makes me feel cranky or just blah...why bother?)
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

so im not sure i asked you this before, but are you tracking your food on an online food tracker? this really helps you to see from day to day what you are doing and sometimes those sneaky carbs are places we dont expect to find them continued good luck jacki

yeah!! I've been tracking EVERYTHING meticulously on the DailyPlate.com. It's been so great to see EXACTLY what I"m eating. Most days I stay within about 1100 to 1200 calories, one day I went to 3,600 (which showed me how I must have been eating around 4,000 some days and didn't even knowit) but I vowed I'd be honest withmyself and not just not track something cause I don't wa'nt it to mess up my totals lol. If I go over 1,400 I throw in an extra workout (ok, so I just decided that right now, but it sounds good huh?) So that's why I was discouraged that I gained two lbs last week, cause I KNEW 6 out of 7 days I ate great! And I worked out at least 2 hours each of those days. My "time of the month" started today and I just realized the gain could have come from water from that.. up to 5 lbs a person can gain right? So with a two lb gain I may have actually lost 3 lbs but just didn't see it because of the time of month. So it's nice to know even though the scale didn't s how success I can look at my daily plate and say "man I did good!' Leslee

I agree with Jacki!  No matter what I do, if I track it I lose easier.  I just need that accountability to myself.  I don't want to see really high numbers, so I tend to make better choices.  I also tend to chose more fitness activities if I know I GET to put them on there.  Fitday is my tracker of choice!  Love it!

Leslee I think I am gonna just sew my damn mouth shut.  Then maybe I will quit eating.  lol lol  Hell no I know me I will just suck chock shakes through a straw.  lol lol  NOt really I would be dumping from now till forever if I even thought about drinking a shake but really why does food have to taste so damn good.  And why is it I can reason out in my head that it is ok to have chicken nuggets from mcdonalds.  I say outloud no you can eat that salad you brought for lunch.  but I reason it out in my head oh just go get a 6 piece it will be ok.  OMG just goes to show that I WILL struggle with this the rest of my life.  You know I quit smoking when I got pg never bothered me.  Started back when baby was about 5 months old and three weeks ago quit again.  It has not bothered me near like food does.  I hope you do good on the 5dpt test.  I have already fallen off that one.  lol  But not gonna think like tomorrow is a new day.  My next meal is a new try.  lol lol   Luv ya Denise

I am so proud of you! The 15:7 ratio is the best way to go! I am glad we had the opportunity to write each other, trust me you will love it! Not to knock anyones diet plan, but now you should know why plans like the 5DPT and other plans that decrease carbohydrate intake is destined to fail and in some cases 80-100% of the time, the weight will return.  Welcome to food freedom!
