Good morning everyone...Please Help!  I gained 15 Lbs since my sleeve.  I've been dong South Beach for 2 weeks, working out 30-45 minutes of cardio almost every day & all I've lost is 5 little pounds!  I weighed myself this morning & I gained almost 1 pound!  Oh this is terrible! Can anyone tell me why is taking me so long to drop these lbs?  I used to lose like 8 lbs in a week!  Any help, advice, or suggestion is greatly appreciated. What can I do to speed up this weight loss? Thank you!

I know 15 pounds isn't enough to warrant taking measurements but how do your clothes fit? The number on the scale is just one thing. If you are building muscle (and doing cardio will do that) you might be losing inches but not pounds. As the experts will tell you "Muscle weighs more than fat, but it's smaller"  don't get discouraged. ;-)

Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214

I agree with the last poster.  Take your measurements.  You might be surprised.  Plus you might be hanging onto some water weight to.  Maybe up your water intake.  Dont get discouraged.

Good luck

Can anyone tell me why is taking me so long to drop these lbs?   I dont know much about the sleeve but I see you are over 2 years out from surgery - we all use to drop 8lbs in the blink of an eye but as we get further along it becomes more 'work' to lose weight.  You lost 5lbs in 2 weeks - I think that is excellent... the 1 pound gain you see this morning could just be a natural weight change (I personally go up and down 2-3lbs, sometimes 3-4lbs). I would stick to the south beach and try and be patient.

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

Scar revision on arms - 3/2015

HALO laser on arms/neck 9/2016

I think so too...It just isn't like the honeymoon phase ever again!  It back to being patient and keep on trying.  The good thing is you have a tool and that really does make it easier ...but nothing makes time go faster!   You are doing great! Really! Give yourself a hug...You ARE doing it!

I'm in the same boat. I started eating around 1200 calories, some days a little more, some days a little less and working out a TON I'm talking like 3 hrs walking and a spin class. Or 45 min up hill treadmill, a spin class, and a step class..all by 9:30 a.m!! I did this for a week..burning FAR more than I was eating, and gained 2 lbs.. I almost gave up, I left the gym crying and didn't stay for my workouts that day (went back for a 40 min walk later in the day after I perked back up and decided not to quit). I ended up starting my period this week, which could have caused a 5 lb gain, which possibly means I lost 3 lbs..

bottom line is, two weeks isn't enough time to give something.. I can do atkins induction and lose 7 lbs in 4 days.. I LOVE that.. I lost 20-30 lbs a month the first few months after my surgery. But as an earlier post said, the honey moon phase is over, and we have to work like anyone else at it now.. and anyone else loses about 2-3 lbs a week! PAINFULLY slow huh?!! There are definately quick weight loss solutions, but my experience thus far with them is number one.. I never stick with them more than a few days, and number two? See number one. So they don't work for me. I've FINALLY after 29 years of dieting (ok maybe like 25, I don't know if I dieted at 4 years old, but shortly after) and a Gastric Bypass, I have FINALLY come to the conclusion that perhaps slow and steady DOES win the race after all!  Good luc****ep on keeping on is the best advice I can give you. South beach is a WONDERFUL plan! It's the most "normal" of any of the "diets" out there. Perhaps go ahead and track your calories for a while too, and the work outs sound good! Be patient... and I will try to be patient with my loss as well. Good luck!

I think we get used to seeing the pounds just drop off after surgery that it disappoints us a couple of years out that we actually have to work for the losses.  I agree with "I eat carbs" that 5 pounds in two weeks is excellent weight loss.  They say 1 to 2 pounds a week is good.  So keep on trucking and you should keep seeing results.  Just slower this time around than right after surgery. When I'm losing weight (even after RNY), I'll drop some pounds, gain a few back, gain another 1 or 2, and then sit still for a long, long time. Then I'll drop those extra pounds and another 1 or 2 pounds, and start over again. After what seems like forever, I'll have lost appreciable weight, but it's sort of a yo-yo thing and not a steady weight loss. It's frustrating as the devil, but it happens. I'm sure you know deep in your heart you haven't actually gained real weight! Try not to get discouraged and give up, because eventually you'll lose those few pounds.
