http://www.thinnerself.com/files/calculator.htm     is the link to a cool site where you enter your weight/height/age statistics . . . It tells you what your BMI is, as well as how many calories it will take you to maintain your current weight based on different activity levels. For me, I need to eat 1700 calories a day to stay at 169 pounds. Since I want to be about 10 pounds thinner, I'll cut back to 1500 and see what happens. It also tells you how much protein you need a day, how much water, etc. -BJ 308/148/169/165 preop/lowest/current/goal

i have seen this calculator.  Thanks for sending it, but I get a laugh out of it.  I am 63 years old, 5'1" weigh 137.  The calculator says I am overweight and should weigh 105. If I weighed 105, I would look terrible.  My doctor says I should weigh 135.  I am not giving you a hard time.  I am just saying in some cases the number are not realistic.    patricia

Yes I totally agree -- the "medical" goal weight is way way too low for me too -- I looked haggard at 148, I can only imagine what 136 would look like on me! I am right where the "normal" person of my age should be, however. The calorie intake estimator is by far the best feature of this calculator. -BJ

Yikes. It says the normal weight for my height and age is 170..When the surgeon told me 125...I figured he was crazy but to see the goal weight right there of 125...Amazing. It also says to maintain my current weight I have to average 1818 calories a day. No wonder I'm not gaining..That is pretty much what I average. I get a whole lot more than 75  grams of protein a day and way more than 63 ounces of water.. Very cool BJ...This is really interesting!
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6

Neat calc. Told me I need 3404 just to maintain. The mbr was off just a little I had this done 2 weeks ago it said 1790 my measured value was 2867. My trainer and Nut have told me to take in around 3800 cals so it was intersting. But I am also running 10 miles a day avg. In prep for 3 marathons I am doing. Doug.
