how fast can you gain muscle? And...I MIGHT be doing the 5dpt after all.. hahaha.

Does anybody know about how much  muscle can be gained in a week? For the last five days I've worked out a TON..well a TON for me anyway. And my cloths are already looser...and there is some loss on the scale, but not as much as I would think considering the noticable change in my face already..etc... so I'm SURE I've gained some muscle..but how much muscle can a person really gain in 5 days? I mean...half a lb? an ounce? 2 lbs?.. 20? (right) Any ideas? Leslee p.s I'm SERIOUSLY considering the 5dpt again!! I'm not "officially" doing it yet.. but it's 12:30. i've been up since 5:00 and all I've consumed today is 2 protein shakes, I might as well finish the day out and call it day one right?! I'm so fickle some times! I never know what to expect from me! So don't hold me to this..but I may surprise you all with a day one completion. Ha!

It is my understanding is tha*****pically takes 2 months of strength training before you develop good muscle mass.  I think your loss is due to typical water weight and bloating decreasing. Dawn

Give yourself some time. Start taking your measurements, as you noticed your clothes are looser. I know during the last year I would not always loose weight every week, and then all of a sudden I would drop several pounds and that is a pattern some people develop. Progress can be measured by inches lost, not just by the scale. The 5dpt is great for getting back on track(although I have not done it myself) but the weightloss from those 5 days can be short lived when you go back to eating regularly. IMHO following the rules we were taught and used as a new post op will still work for us now. Protien first, no drinking with meals, exercise ect......

You are doing great, keep up the good work.

Hi you I agree. Take your measurements.  We have to try and ignore the numbers on that stupid scale.  Right now you say that your clothes are looser,  YEA  we'll celebrate that.  And go ahead and try the Pouch test.   It well give you something to focus on.   You seem to enjoy a challenge from what I've read so think of something extra special for yourself.  Spa treatment,  facial, or clothes ( always my favorite)  And make that your reward for completing the challenge.  and if your learn to read your body again and gain the control you want then hey there's your bonus.  Can you tell  I like the whole reward thing  Just don't be hard on yourself and go for it.  And if you don't want to do it in public then try on your own quitely.  We'll all support you either way.  And well celebrate when your done.

I used the FitLinx machines at the Y which track progress with a computer.  I would say for the first few months I saw consistent increase in total weight lifted, then a plateu for 6mo.  Only recently did I get a small increase in total weight lifted. If you start lifting, I would not expect much of a weight decrease.  In fact, you might expereience a weight GAIN.  Muscle weighs more than fat for a given volume.  What the muscle will do is increase your basal metabolic rate so if you keep calories the same you'll lose more over time OR you will eventually have to eat more to maintain the same weight.

thanks, that was helpful...yes I need to focus on measurments and cloths fitting and stuff. I'm keeping my caloires below 1400 and working out a LOT, like yesterday I burned over 1,000 calories. But I just keep staring at that scale. So I think I'll take peoples advice, and keep going and ignore the scale for a while, maybe take measurements once a week. Like I said I've seen a little loss on the scale, but not as much as I'd think with how good I'm doing, but then again, Im used to doing atkins for a week and seeing a 10 lbs loss...eating "normal" I may not see weight loss as fast. I might just see the 2-3 lbs a week that they recommend anyway! hahaha.. Thanks
