Have your taste buds changed?

I hope someone out there has had this happen to them. I would hate to think I am the only weird one! Hubby and I have used ground turkey in place of beef for years. Well, about a month ago we were having dinner that had the turkey in it. I took a bit e and was completely disgusted. Hubby and kids said dinner was outstanding. So I took another bite. I nearly choked. Gross! I couldn't swallow that bite fast enough. Here it is, weeks later and I can smell the difference between ground turkey and beef. I simply cannot stand the smell, texture, or taste of the ground turkey. Please tell me I'm not imagining this! Bex

You're not imagining it.  Mine changed as well.   I used to love plain water, no I can't stand it.  No matter if it's bottled, from the sink, etc.  It all tastes terrible.

My experience was that I no longer could stand anything with splenda in it. I was a diet drink junkie prior my surgery. I no lomger can drink diet drinks or food with sugar substitue. I get extremly bad and nausea heartburn/indigestion.  I had a VBG  vertical band gastroplasty.. 1 year out amd I only lost 47 lbs.    It is propably because of my bad arthritis that I don.t exercise as much as I should.  cindy

You're definately not the only one...  I used to love pasta and french fries, now I don't like them and can't stand the smell of anything frying either, it's a good thing but sometimes I miss it and try it again.  I'm almost 6 years out but this hasn't changed for me.  Textures are a big thing for me now also, I can't handle anything that is too mushy or to fiberous.  I wish I would have the same reaction to chocolate....  lol!   Take care!

You are not alone.  I have a thing about textures.  I cannot stand anything really mushy.  I also cannot take things that are very fibrous.  Meat cannot have any fat on it anywhere.  Plus, I have to dissect a piece of chicken before I eat it and make sure it is only meat and no chewy parts.  Yuck!  I will just gag.  Like yesterday, I did a pasta dish with chicken.  The first bite I took I got a piece of chicken that was chewy.  That was it.  I was done.  I ended up having to eat peanut butter and wheat crackers for lunch.  LOL.   Melissa

Nope,  I wish.  I wish french fries and donuts tasted like crap to me, but they don't. I have never been able to stand the taste of fat on any meat, nor can I eat food with alot of oil in it, but that was the same preop.  The only good change is I don't like the taste of anything overly sweet, so if I do taste pie, cake, candy, or cookies, I don't like them.  Which is good, as I don't want to dump.  Donuts are the exception.  They are like crack to me.  I don't care how sweet they are, or how sick they make me.  If one is around, I can't leave it alone.  Lesson here, never, ever have them around. One big change, I used to drink about a gallon of unsweetened ice tea a day as a preop.  I would have bet a fortune that I wouldn't lose my taste for it.  Now, it is really rare for me to drink it, I choose plain water, strange. Oh yes, I have this too. Its weird the things that I loved before and dislike now and vice versa. I used to HATE canned ****e albacor tuna (dh liked it occasionally) and it would make me sick to just smell it, now I love it and eat it often.

Me too, my tastes have changed.  Really the thought of chocolate makes my tummy feel yucky.  I can savor one bite, but that is it.  Also, I could have lived off icecream, no longer.  Unfortunately, I still push the envelope every so often and get the swimmy in the head feeling, which I am thankful for.  I have developed a HUGE love for caramels.  I am hoping the 5-day test will help with that before it becomes too much of a problem.  I do find that I love fruits and veggies now!  I just have to get to them before the caramels:)
