Ruth,

I am SO glad you asked this question because it is something I also wonder about. IMHO I think there is a physiological difference in those of us who have been obese since early childhood and who suffered from metabollic disorders (I have PCOS). I was able to get to goal weight and have a normal BMI (just under the wire), but my body makeup and how my weight is proportioned is less than desirable....still carry lots of belly fat. I think it would be an interesting study to look at long-term results in RNY patients depending upon whether they became obese as late teens/adults or as young children.

Hi MaryEllen I too had PCOS until I had a full hysterectomy due to Uterine Cancer.  I didn't realise that was a metabolic disorder.  What are the symptoms of that kind of disorder? I have always carried most of my weight around my belly - and managed to hide it fairly well which is why people were always so surprised when I told them my true weight - even my surgeon!!  It still is stuck on my belly, grrrr. Great job getting to normal bmi.  I wonder if a study has been done somewhere.  It really does intrigue me to see if there is a difference in outcome of patients with different histories.

I know I woudl be happy at this weight if I got rid of my belly.  WHen I look down all I see is the size I was before as my perspective is still the same from above!!  WHen I look in the mirror I see small everything else and a belly hanging there.  I can't get lower body lift or tummy tuck paid for and at the moment I'm still in debt from my wls that I self paid for.  I have also heard that having surgery to remove excess skin/fat kick starts further weight loss too. Maybe one day we will...
