I had gastric bypass 1/17/07 so its been a year and some change. I lost a significant amount of weight but I never got to where I wanted to be and my weight loss stopped for the past 4 months or so. I do plan on getting back to the basics to jumpstart my weight loss again but does anyone have any specific advice or ideas that you have used yourself? Maybe a sample meal and exercise plan that could guide me?  Thanks everyone!

Hi Angela, Lost of folks have different ways to jump start your weight loss.  Here is one I found on this site.

Plateau Buster Diet How to break a plateau #1 - Do this for 10 days to break a plateau #2 - Drink 2 quarts of water a day #3 - You must have 45 grams of protein supplement and all your vitamins/minerals supplements each day #4 - You may consume up to 3 oz of the following high protein foods, 5x a day beef pork chicken turkey lamb fish eggs low fat cheese cottage cheese plain s/f yogurt peanut butter beans/legumes You may also have: sugar free popsicles tea or coffee  sugar free jello broths/bullion (sp?) crystal light drinks #5 - If it's not on the list, you can't have it for 10 days!!!! #6 - Keep a food diary and try to get up to 30 mins of exercise daily

I know a LOT of us are dealing with, or have dealt with this exact same thing. I stopped losing weight after about 10 months...I lost another 10 lbs in the following 4 months, then stopped entirely for 4 months, then over this last year have gained 35 lbs!!! So you are right on target nipping this in the bud now!  You might want to look into the 5 day pouch test, a lot of people are doing that, it didn't work so well for me..but I may try it again in the near future myself. What I am doing, is going back to basics.. but back to basics wasn't enough. I HATE tracking what I'm eating. I thought if I cut out alcohol and all snacking (since I did a lot of both) i would for SURE just start losing weight again. But I'm afraid I also have to keep an eye on my calorie intake and yes.. workout!. I assumed if I could only eat a cup of food three times a day how could I possibly go over my cal limit? So as of today I am actually tracking what I eat on thedailyplate.com So I have cut out all alcohol, all snacking, and eat three meals a day of mostly protein and veggies. And Tracking my calories, trying to keep it below 1000 (for weight loss) and I'm trying to get in 90 grams of protein, and then I'm also training for a 20 mile hike in Sept. so I'm adding 45 min  to2.5 hrs of working out (will be building up to that 2 hours). I think it IS a matter of going back to basics...but for me I think it's also going to take keeping track of  how well I'm doing with that plan. It's not enough juts for me to monitor it in my head..cause the few bites of chips here, the two marshmellows there, the cup of regular soda here, the extra egg there.. REALLY do add up!  I think (for me anyway) there is a FINE line between weight loss and weight gain.  Good luck, and know there are others out there in your shoes. the plan the first post told you about should work, as it basically cuts out most carbohydrates, and when your body has no carbs it goes into ketosis which is a rapid form of weight loss. We were ALL in ketosis the first month or so, as we couldn't eat enough to get enough carbs to bring us OUT of ketosis. So our weight loss was not only rapid at first because of the low calories, but because we were also in ketosis so the body burned fat at a much faster speed. A low fat Atkins or South Beach type diet works well for us, because it focuses on proteins and low carbs. But yes, I'm now learning, it's not just how MUCH I eat, it's WHAT I eat. Good luck! leslee

Thank you tons! Your post was very encouraging, inspiring, and provided tons of information. I looked up the 5 day pouch test and thought about what you said about everything and I'm ready to get going again!

Hi all, I am 2 years out and have pretty much stalled for the past 10 months.  Let's just say I haven't lost a pound since September of last year.  I honestly feel that my pouch is broken.  The only time I do know that it works it because I still dump every now and then if I eat something that I doesn't agree with me.  I still have not reached my goal of 160 pounds.  I have just hired a trainer and decided to go back to basics as well.  This road is a trying one (the road of weight loss) and the truth of the matter is, I don't eat everything that I am suppose to and I definitely don't exercise as much as I should.  But I know that if I truly want to get the remaining 35-40 pounds off, I am going to have to get it in gear. Please wish me luck as I do the same for you. I think I will start off with the Plataue buster.  I did Atkins a long time ago, so this should be a piece of cake, right?  LOL Take care. Kim

I Won't Complain!  I've had good days, I've had bad days.  All of my good days out weigh my bad days, I WON'T COMPLAIN.....  Kimberleece

I suggest you get a metabolism test to find out what *your* body needs. Once you have that use that information to build an eating plan for yourself... or bring it to your NUT and have them help you. Basically your calories should break down to 40% protein, 30% fat, 30% carbs if you are trying to lose weight...Womans Day magazines website had a WLS friendly diet - it was the "1200 calorie diet" but told you how to modify it to different calorie goals (higher and lower)... its lean protein, lots of veggies, fruits and whole grains... good place to start. Its hard to give you a meal plan when each of us is different with different surgeries and different amounts bypassed... personally I eat 1400-1800 calories a day but there are people at my stage that each much more and much less - its not really one size fits all ya know? The plateau busters diet posted above was started as a joke and it took off like wild fire - somebody just made it up to see if it would catch on, posted it and people took off and ran with it - IMO you are better off following the basic rules then trying something like that. Getting back to basics alone should help jump start the weight loss. As for exercise - MSN fitness is excellent - they have a "fastest body makeover" plan on their website (link on my blog) that is *excellent* I got amazing results from it and its only a 4-6 weeks program... they have many exercise routines on there for all different fitness levels and fitness goals. Webmd.com has some as well as aol fitness.
