Since my surgery, I've become lactose intolerant. I'm able to eat cheese without a problem. Do any of you who are lactose intolerant have problems eating yogurt?

Hi Donna, I can eat cheese also, but I can't eat Yogurt.  I get severe heartburn from it.  I don't know why.  I can't tolerate any milk products other than cheese.  I wonder why myself.  Anyway, hope this was helpful.

I do OK with a little yogurt, but it wouldn't do for me to eat a lot of it. One of those little individual serving things has been OK though. I even have trouble with Lactaid and Dairy Ease. Do you ever try something like that just to have a little cereal?

I haven't had cereal in years because of the milk issue. I'm going to try some Lactaid and see how that goes. I eat oatmeal with soy milk but having it on cold cereal has never appealed to me. Thanks for the info!

I cannot drink milk or whey protein...but I can handle cheese and greek yogurt or low carb yogurt...Most other yogurt has a ton of regular sugar and lately I can't handle some artificial sweeteners either!  I can handle cottage cheese too, but not ricotta cheese... I eat only an ounce of cheese at a time...I really doubt I could handle more than that. Greek yogurt (I use Fage and LOVE , LOVE , LOVE IT!!!) http://www.fageusa.com/products.html.  It's  so awesome...It soooo expensive but it goes a long way and is loaded with protein.  I use it in place of sourcream too...and I add my own fruits or NSA preserves for a low sugar yogurt.  I can handle frozen yogurt  ice cream too...No troubles usually...If I feel just a twinge of discomfort....I take a probiotic and that takes care of it all! USUALLY... I am sooo glad i have no more heartburn...ever!  That was a daily all day thing in my life before surgery...I woke up from surgery and never felt that awful feeling again...I can't even imagine it again... Good luck...

Thanks for the post. I will try the Fage. It is expensive but so is the Starbucks I don't mind plopping 4 bucks down for every morning! I used to take probiotics but haven't for quite a while. Do you find they help with more than digestion of dairy foods?

The probiotics help with gas and irritable bowels for sure! I use it like Beeno...it has the same results but keeps on working to keep healthy flora in your system....especially that bad flora that loves sugar and carbs and multiplies when I am not making good choices ...The flora in probiotics get rid of the bad flora and keep things balanced.... Sometimes, though...nothing works that evening! LOL Those nights..ya sleep alone....But usually they work great to prevent gas from starting...and stops gas if you take it at the first signs of gas....It takes a little longer once gas and bloating gets too bad...but I don't usually have a problem when I am eating right... You will love Fage ( i hope you can handle it)  Most lactose people can handle yogurt because of the probiotics in yogurts. and many of wls lactose people don't realize it's the hight sugar in yogurt that usually bothers us over the lactose...Fage is lower in sugar than most any regular yogurt....I won't eat any other yogurt anymore or use sourcream either...I tried cheaper greek yogurts and they don't compare...I'm like you...if I love something, i will spend extra for it...but I'm actually a very thrifty person by the way I was raised.... Enjoy

I've been using AccuFlora that I got at Costco...But Probiotics are EVERYWHERE! Look for Probiotic Acidophilus....(Same stuff in yogurt!)  I've tried several different ones and all of them seem to work fine.  I like this one because it is not coated and works faster....I borrowed this picture from the Costco site...But you can find smaller boxed version if you are not a Costco member...This is a huge bottle of 240 Caplets.  I recently bought a strawberry yogurt flavored chewable (Called "Your Life") at Costco and it doesn't seem to be as strong or something....But they taste GREAT!  I always go back to the Accuflora...
