Help! 5dpt ...I have ?????s.
Hi all, I'm trying the 5 day pouch test for the first time. I looked on the site but wondered if anyone has the answer to this: Can you have Diet Drinks on this? Why do you have to wait the 30mins before & after a meal to drink? I thought that rule was so that our pouch could hold the food longer and no****hrough the pouch. But on day 1 &2 if we aren't eating solid food why the 30 min. wait? Please explain this to me. I appreciate any info on this. I'm almost done with day 1 of the 5dpt. It was my understanding that the 30 min rule didn't apply to the first two days, but starts again to apply as soon as the third day, when you're actually eating. I thought I read that on the website, if not, I'm not sure where I heard it or if I made it up. Unless it's just a habit thing, ya know? To get in the habit. But I believe the 30 min water thing doesn't apply the first two days. I don't know about the diet drinks, I've been putting crystal light in my water. I've heard too much aspartame can slow down/stop weight loss in some people.
Have you started yet? If today is your first day also then keep in touch and we can "check in " I have one other person doing it with me, and it's helped me knowing that she's doing it too.

Yep, this is my first day. I've had an Edge Protein Drink, 32 oz. water, 1 cup. of tomato soup and 1 diet dr. pepper. (I didn't get up today until 1pm! so I still have a ways to go yet!) I tried a new protein drink but eughhhhh! I took vanilla and added frozen blueberries to it. Put it in the freezer....Uck! Couldn't drink it! I guess when they say soup, Campbells can soup is ok.????? I really don't know what I'm doing here. I'm glad you started today too. Let me know what you had. I might find something new I like. I agree with you on the diet drinks. I've always heard they were a no no, but I was just hoping!!!!!!

You are so right to remind everyone that it is ha*****anges that lead to ultimate success.
One ha*****ange that almost all surgeons advise is to stay away from carbonated beverages (they swell and enlarge your pouch.) Also avoid sweet additives to drinks as they increase your desire for other sweet foods and then it is downhill from there. Eliminating alcohol is also a big one. Not just for the calories but for what it does to our liver after RNY.
Develope good habits and the 5 day test will not be neccessary again.
