Refresh my memory, please...
Can someone please tell me what our carb intake should be? Or what a healthy number is? I have forgotten SO MUCH by being away from my support system. I am trying to get back on the wagon so I can lose about 12-16 lbs. Today was the first day and so far, I've made it! I'm using Fitday.com to track my foods. Was a little disappointed to see I've had more carbs than protein (94g of protein, baby! lol). I believe my carbs were around 147 for the day.
Thank you,
Bex
Thanks! Looks like I blew it my first day back on the wagon. GGGGRRR!!!! Hubby just walked by me while eating an oatmeal raisin cookie a neighbor sent over. I couldn't stop myself. I had to have 2-3! Man, I need a serious beating. Perhaps I could pay one of my kids to taser me when I have a bad idea. Nah, he would have too much fun!!!

Many are told 100 grams per day, and I think that's a good amount for someone trying to maintain. IMO to lose or for me anyway 100 grams per day it to much. I shoot for 50 or so when I'm really trying to watch and lose a few.

Thanks! I was just looking at Fitday.com and the Wheaties I had for breakfast was a no-no along with the sugar I put in my coffee. Oh, and the protein bar I picked up while running errands. Funny, I didn't even look at the other ingridients. I saw "30g of protein" and I bought it. Oh, I've forgotten SO MUCH in the last year!
I was once REALLY good at not having sugar ( I used Splenda) and it caused me to have low blood sugar. So for the past couple of months I've been adding it back into my diet. I wish I could find a happy medium. If I go too long without sugar, my lips and tongue get numb and tingliny. I've found adding to my coffee helps me get through the morning. The rest of the day is a guessing game.

I'm in the "it depends" camp. I exercise a lot (9-10 hours per week, composed of 4 hours of strength training, 5 hours of cardio, 1 hour of yoga). I need carbs to give me energy for this much exercise, so I eat more carbs than many post-ops. Here's what I aim for each day:
Total calories: 2000-2200
Carbs: 250 grams (50% of calories)
Fats: 55 grams (25% of calories)
Fiber: 25 grams
Protein: 125 grams (25% of calories)
If my calories are higher or lower, I try to keep my protein/carb ratio the the same (2:1 - twice as many grams of carbs as protein). I am 2 1/2+ years post op, stand 5'7", started at 396 pounds and am currently maintaining around 185-186, depending on the day.
When I am trying to lose, I do cut back on my carbs and bump up my protein. But pretty small differences -- like 225 grams of carbs and 150 grams of protein. If I cut back on my carbs too much, my energy levels tank and I feel like crap when I exercise.
Good luck on your continuing journey -

Wow, under 900 calories to lose? that sounds like SOOOO little..but I'm pretty sure that's how it needs to be for me, thanks for the input! I too need to watch my carbs it looks like as well.
EAS has great protein drinks. 17 grams protein, 1 net carb (2 carbs total), and only 100 calories, all three flavors are delicious! They are good slightly frozen and eaten as a slushy shake!

As you can see, everyone's need are completely different. It definitely depends on your activity level. I work out ALOT~cardio and weights~so my body requires carbs to have the energy needed to support my workouts. Looking back at my food log, it seems like I usually take in around 150gm daily~all good carbs from things like bananas, whole grains, steel cut oats, etc. When I'm being "good", I don't touch any refined carbs from things like crackers, white breads, potatoes, pasta, cookies, etc. Anyway, I guess you need to look at your daily routine and see what will work best for you. Good Luck!
