Another complication

I've been having abdominal pain for a few weeks now.  Finally went to urgent care yesterday when I couldn't stand it.  I thought they'd say gall bladder because my surgeon didn't take it out during my RNY eight years ago.  Nope, I have intussussception (basically your small bowel reverse-telescopes into your large bowel and gets strangled).  This SUCKS!  I've spent the last year dealing with severe malnutrition, body aches and neuropathy and now this.  Have any of you experienced intussussception?  Did you have to have surgery?  They did a second CT last night and I expect a colonoscopy as well.  They're hoping it will unkink itself with some of the procedures, but otherwise I am heading for open abdomen surgery.

My husband had that when he was 2 years old. His was infected with gangren by the time they got to it and he had his surgery in 1945...that's like the stone age for surgery... I'm sure they caught it in time and you'll be fine.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Sorry to hear you are going through this.  I had it about 2 years out from my surgery.  I had to have surgery to have it repaired and they removed 12" of my small bowel.  I was in the hospital for 17 days.  My surgeon said it was rare in adults but I have actually talked to a few post ops that have had problems with this.  I am 5 years out now and am having iron infusions only have 2 more of those left to do.  I sure do fell a lot better.  I hope that it clears up for you with out having to have surgery.  Jennifer

The malnutrition is from the RNY.  Despite B12 shots, regular iron (including infusions), multivtiamins, calcium and dry A&D, my levels remain bottomed out.  They have diagnosed me with neuropathy secondary to malnutrition from the low B12.  Apparently this happens to a lot of people once they are 7-8 years out, even if they were med compliant.  I'm now on weekly B12 and two iron pills per day (Vitron-C) and that seems to have helped some.

Hi Meagan, So sorry that you've had to endure so many ailments.  I bet you were healthier at your starting weight.  Any chance of getting a reversal (especially the intestinal part) and converting (if that is what you would want) to a non malabsorbtive WLS like the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy? I too suffer from anemia (my entire adult life) and have had infusions two months ago.  My levels are still too low so Monday I will begin my series of infusions again. Yeah, maybe talk reversal of your RNY because you are not absorbing the nutrition you need. You are a young beautiful woman and should be able to enjoy life. Much Love, Peace, & Harmony, Leila
