Has anyone heard of this? My GF had Gastric bypass surgery in 2004 and has since had a child and has gained back alot of the weight. She really wants to get the lap band. Any advice?

Hey Jennifer-- You may want to check out the revision weight loss surgery forum (which i just found today), as there's tons of information there. Michelle

I had RNY in 2004, had 2 kiddos, gained back 70lbs, and have since lost more than half since my son was born 2/12.  And no, not all of that was "baby" or "water". Most likely, she can get back on the wagon if she's willing to go back to the basics. But yes, I've heard of this.  I agree that the revisions board is the best place to ask about this.

I also think she needs to look at the reason for the weight gain. Ok, I haven't had any children, so I don't relate with that kind of weight gain, but are there other reasons for the weight gain? If it has anything to do with her habits a revision or lap band may not help. I only say this because I was looking at a proceedure called "stomaphyx" where basically they go back and shrink your pouch back up...it sounded like a Godsend to help me lose the rest of the weight..and the 30 lbs I put back on (and this was all my doing, no baby, I have to take this all on my own! lol). But then I looked at WHY I think I had gained the weight, i was drinking a lot (lots of calories and yoru body burns that first before fat) and I was snacking all day and all night...I don't think it would matter WHAT size my pouch was, with those habits I'm not going to lose weight. So for me, a revision or lap bad or stomaphyx wouldn't do any good UNTIL I changed those habits..AND changing those habits alone just may be enough to resume the weight loss. So I think there's a lot to consider....for most of us the "pouch" still works, if we go back to basics and do what we started doing to lose the weight to begin with. Just some food for thought on why I am currently going to focus on my habits before I look into a new proceedure... howEVER you MAY find me on the revision board myself! So I completely understand wanting to find something to help again... On another note...i do believe I've heard of lap band after bypass...but also have her look into stomaphyx, it's very very very new and about $10,000, Good luck! Leslee

Just a FYI -- alot of people are not happy with Stomaphyx.  It's just not living up to expectations, thus far.

That's what I've heard by a couple of people...so I didnt' invest in it yet...realizing I needed to fix my snacking/drinking issues anyway...regardless...so thank you for the additional affirmation not to waste my money! I've heard of people only losing 20 lbs...well I can do that.. (can I? lol) anyway. Leslee
