HELP! What type of meds do you take for pain?
Hello All,
It's been a while since I've last posted. I'm nearly 3 years out and haven't had any problems my trusty liquid Tylenol couldn't solve. Now I am dealing with Scoliosis, Degenerative Disk Disease, and bulging disks. Or so the doctors say. Mind you, I'm in Korea seeing Army doctors. I don't have a lot of faith in them. Anyway, two days ago the pain in my back was so severe I found myself in the ER. The doc was talking with my husband (as if I weren't even there ) about what to prescribe me for pain. I was sent home with Flexeril (sp?). My question to you all is, what is safe to take for major pain? I am concerned about my pouch and ulcers. I'm hoping to go for my doctor appointment tomorrow with suggestions I receive from you all since no one on this peninsula has any experience with WLS . HELP!!!

NSAIDs (Advil, aspirin) are the no-no's.
Flexeril is fine. I take that, too.
Narcotics, either cut with tylenol or straight, are fine too. These include darvocet, perccocet, vicodin, lortab, tylenol 3, tylox, norco, oxycontin, tramadol, etc.
A few others that have been used for chronic pain (and no, I have no clue if these are options for your issues): gabapentin (neurontin) and lyrica.
Maybe this will help you out?
I've taken percoset, vicodin, and morephine sulfate. I had disc issues. Just had a spinal fusion a few weeks ago.
Flexeril is a muscle relaxant and that is fine too.
Kathy

Hey, Anita! I'm doing pretty well. My surgery went better than I expected except for the blood loss. Low blood makes your head spin and it harder to breathe. What a couple of units of blood will fix!!! I start back at work part time tomorrow. Hope it goes okay. Lots of nerve pain down my leg but my back itself feels better. Hugs back at ya, Kathy
