Does anyone know what % of carbs we should have on a daily basis?

IMO, it depends on how much you exercise.  Me, I'm pretty hard core (9-10 hours per week at the gym), so I get about 50% of my calories from carbs, 25% from protein, 25% from fat.  But I'm burning off a lot of energy at the gym (2000-2500 calories per week at least).  If you're not exercising pretty regularly, you may do better with a 40% carbs, 35% protein, 25% fat ratio.  And there are other schools of thought that carbs should be even lower, but I personally don't subscribe to that philosophy.  But perhaps someone else can chime in on that.   It also depends on where you are in the process.  Early out, I was getting probably 70% of my calories from protein, 20% from carbs, 10% from fat.  Because our capacity is so limited right after our surgery, we need a much higher percentage of our nutrition to come from protein so our bodies to start breaking down our muscle tissue to meet our minimum protein needs.   By the way, I'm not a nutritionist or dietician, just someone who's spent a lot of time researching, reading, and analyzing this stuff.  I really need a new hobby -  Kellie

Everybody will have a different opinion about this. My nut & surgeon recommend something like 25% of calories coming from carbs, mostly wheat & brown carbs instead of white. When my weight is up (like now), sometimes I try to cut down on my carbs but I feel dizzy and don't have the least bit of energy, which makes me think that might be the wrong thing to do. My nut says 3 bites of protein, 2 bites of veggies, and 1 bite of a good carb is a good balance.

Thank you for the advice.  I go through these stages where as all I want is protien and then I want carbs.  I am tracking on fitday.com to control everything.  The honeymoon is over.
