Does this sound like ulcer pain??
I am one of my docs mystery patients or zebras...Lately I have had alot of pain the my esophagus and area I assume is my pouch. It is worse in the morning and evening. When the pain is at its worse it seems to go through my shoulder blades. I think it feels like how an ulcer would. However, nothing showed on a CT scan at Mayo a month or so ago. Do they develop quickly and can they be missed? What about the shoulder pain. At this point I am waiting until I throw up blood to go bavk...any thoughts from others? I am on generic prilosec daily. A
Milk of Mag has really helped the constipation but my stools are still very narrow while frequest. Had a colonoscopy in November.
Just looking for other swho may struggle with some of these things.

huum, could be ulcer, but you are already taking the prilosec which would lessen the stomach acid. have you had your gallbladder out yet?
I have had both, duodenal ulcer (and that is more a burning feeling), and the gallbladder was just painful.
Keep an eye on this...yes ulcers can develop and get irritated quickly. Mine got recently irritated when I accendentally at just a taste of hot sauce!! YIKES!!!

OH my gosh.. don't wait until you throw up blood... at that point your life could be in jeopardy...I had an ulcer 1 year post-op and it felt like a burning stabbing pain right in the middle of my chest under my rib cage. It went right through to my back... The only way to diagnose it absolutely is an upper endoscopy... Have you had one? I would go back to demand one... If it isn't an ulcer, this test can also diagnose other issues. Ct scan will not show an ulcer.... unless it has rupured...
My treatment for the ulcer was carafate 4x a day..(coats ulcer and helps healing) and prilosec 2x a day for 2 weeks. (Prilosec does not heal the ulcer it only reduces stomach acid) After 2 days the pain was completely gone.. My surgeon told me that if the ulcer becomes chronis the only way to take care of it is surgically. If you don't do anything about it now you will end up in emergency surgery so PLEASE CALL YOUR DR....
Wishing you the best...

I had the same thing, and my nurse (also had r-n-y) said it was called "pouch-itis". It started one year after being totally complication free. She said it just happens sometimes and it is basically the lining of the pouch becoming inflamed and irritated. I started noticing that it would start after I ate grapefruit. Not right away, but maybe like the next morning. so maybe something you are eating the night before is causing it.
I also find drinking lots more water (I know, how much more can we drink?) and being consistent with the Prilosec keeps it from starting. Once it starts, it's hard to get the inflammation down again. Keep a record of what you eat and see if a pattern develops as to when the irritation starts. Hope this helps.
