I had Gastric Bypass three and a half years ago. Everything was great for the first two years. I had lost a total of 135 pounds, exactly half my body weight(270). I lost it very fast with very few and minor complications. Well in the last year I have seen the scale slowly go up. I cant take it anymore. I am so affraid of gaining right back up to 270 lbs. The problem is I hate exercising and I can definitly eat alot more then a year ago. What can I do to whip my self in to shape?

Well I hate to tell you but you have to move your body. Find something you like to do and do it. Walk, run, bike, elipical, arobic classes, swimming, yoga, anything. Sometimes mixing it up and not just doing one thing works better too. I find if I don't move my body, I gain. I am 2 1/2 yrs out and I can eat almost as much as I used to eat so this is very frustrating for me too. I know I sure feel better when I work out. You can do it! You have the motivation! Diona

Hey there! I remember your picture, but I think you have a different username  now??? Anyway, I'm 3+yrs out now too and it does get more difficult. I have minor ups and downs, but so far have been able to stay on top of it. I think exercise is one of the main components. I agree with the above post~you have to find something you enjoy doing so you will stick with it. I have found a love for exercise~I like walking outdoors, doing walking dvd's like Walk Away the Pounds, riding the recumbent bike and light strength training. There are definitely some workouts that I do not enjoy~heavy weightlifting, step aerobics, etc. I can also eat way more now too and that's scary. I have to make a concious decision to pick the right foods~some days I do and some days I don't. I hate it when I get off track b/c gain weight and feel like crap! Hang in there and just keep working at it! Good Luck!

I agree with the other ladies...at 3 years out I watch food more than I did when I had a love affair with food. From the get go, I made exercise my friend. Now I go to kung fu 3-4 times a week. At the end of each class the instructor says to compliment yourself for what your goal was for the day. Every day...my response is " I made it through the door!". I am with you, I abhor exercise....but I know that for me its essential. I was very upset that I could not maintain 120 lbs, and for several months I sit at 130-133. I hate that number, but my clothes havent changed and I don't look much different, just healthier and less bony. I am like you....upset and afraid that I would be a failure after all the hard work, then some of my friends here reminded me that I was eating right, stayed sugar free, exercising, still in size 4's....not to sweat it. I still do....but their wisdom was encouraging. So I check in every day on fit day and log my foods (which I also loathe to do) but I do it for accountability so I am not tempted to gorge or eat wrong things. And by doing this, I can take the fear and pressure off, because each day when i read my totals I can see that I am eating right, and exercising. And if this is where my body wants to stay, well so be it. Its still under the goal my doc had for me! So...hope you are encouraged, and can start exercising. For me, I had to have accountability. going to a gym was not enough. I had to sign up for a trainer, now when I pay money I will get my butt there! maybe that will help you too. After a year with a trainer, I went to kung fu, because it was cheaper and I still had individual attention. Sorry for writing a book, I do understand and we all want to help encourage you!

Unfortunately, we have lost our malabsorption that helped us lose gobs of weight all at once.  So now, we have to work on our loss. To lose weight, you need a caloric deficit.  You can do it by one of 3 ways: 1) eat fewer calories, don't move 2) eat same calories, excercise 3) eat fewer calories, excercise If you hate excercising, you're gonna have to cut your caloric consumption somehow.  It sucks, but it's true. I did the 5day pouch test to get my butt back on track.  It reminds you of the basics, can help you remember what it's like to feel full again, etc.  I recommend it to everyone who is trying to find their way back to plan.  It doesn't necessarily help you lose weight (it can), but it does remind you to eat protein first, etc.  You can get details for it at http://5daypouchtest.com

I feel for you.  I am in the exact same boat right now.  I have gained about 20 lbs over the past two years.  I have started to walk on the treadmill and we bought the Wii fit (which really is fun to do).  Anything to get me moving.  I don't exercise every day.  So far I have averaged 3 days over the past 3 weeks.  My eating habits have not changed as of yet but, I know I am going to have to modify my eating to acomplish my goals.  I have never enjoyed exercising so I really have to MAKE myself get on the treadmill.  I try to do it as soon as I get home from work because I know if I wait I will just not feel like getting on it.  I hope to see some results soon.  Like the others have said....find something you enjoy doing and have fun with it.  Good luck....I think most of us struggle at some point.  I have also been thinking about trying the 5-day pouch reset.  Maybe it would be the kick start I need. I don't know of any magic pixie dust that will help you so my advice is: Eat less and excercise more. I would start by truthfully logging your food for a week and looking for things that can be eliminated, changed, etc.

if I don't exercise , i always eat less. because i am not going to be burning off those calories. the same thing goes for you and everybody else......... if you don't want to exercise and be active and exercise then you need to eat less...... if you want to eat more and NOT gain weight ...... you need to exercise a lot more then just a walk around the block.  you need to exercise at least 45 minutes to an hour a day to burn off the extra calories and or lose weight and maintain and keep your weight under control. you can SPLIT up your exercises - 20 minutes you can do the treadmil and the other couple of minutes you can pick another exercise you can do for the rest of the minutes you have left. aerobic and cardio exercise are great for weight loss. 30 minutes on the treadmil , you don't have to do high intensity workouts, walk at a good speed for you so that you are comfortable. OR do a DVD -  aerobic and cardio exercise workout DVD. if you eat more and enjoy eating, you need to burn off those extra calories through exercising! good luck Lizzy

Exercise or gain the weight.  That's the deal whether we like it or not. You are still way ahead of the game, don't let yourself slip.  Were you miserable at 270? All the best to you, Leila
