I agree w/ Dave.  Whatever you choose to drink,  you'll probably feel it much more quickly, but the effects tend to wear off much quicker also.  Then, the tendency is to drink more (to somewhat perpetuate the pleasant "high") than you otherwise might.  Just be careful!   For some reason, wines tend to affect me more (& faster) than other mixed drinks, even if I have a relatively sweet mixed drink. Experiment slowly & safely!

Always,
Jo

I don't drink often, but  when I do I enjoy Absolut Vodka mixed with crystal light so its sugar free. Even if we go out, I just carry those little crystal light packets with me, order a glass of water and a shot of vodka and mix it at the table~my friends all do it too!

The zilch mix mentioned above it pretty good - its margarita flavored and comes in single serve packets so easy to take out. Crystal lite is also a great option.. you can find a lot of drink mix ideas online using that If you can tolerate/choose to drink soda then of course soda water or diet soda with any liquor is good... if you are worried about carbs/sugar you can google the nutritional information and choose a liquor based on that. A few people mentioned fruit juice based drinks - juice is loaded with sugar... a better choice is to mix with water then ask for a splash of juice - you get the flavor without all the sugar/calories etc.  A really good vodka (belvedere, ketel one) and water is also a good drink... twist of lime on the rocks.

Just sip slowly....whatever you get...Sweet drinks might make you even more ill...They do me.  I don't drink often but will sip on a glass of wine...a cosmopolitan or ask the bartender to make me something light on the liquor and sugar free and they always come up with something for me.  Once I have my one drink....I drink water with a lime or lemon the rest of the night. I cannot drink after I eat or I will be aweful sick.  So that's good for me I guess!  Good luck and don't feel like you HAVE to have alcohol...have the bartender make you a fancy water! I do!

I am 4 yrs PO and I have been out with friends having a drink several times. I  stay away from all the sugary sweet syrups that go in mixed drinks. I'm with friends and the music is playing, I'm ready to get a buzz going. I order a shot of vodka and a diet drink. I do my shot all at once and then sip on my diet drink, order some appeterizers keep something in your tummy. let things settle a bit and then maybe you will be ready for another shot.  A shot glass of most all hard liquor is around 100 calories, some less. That is pretty good compared to mix drink.  have fun, live life..you should be able to enjoy a night out with friends once in awhile, just listen to your body and drink slow. 1 shot and sip the soda, eat and enjoy the conversation and music and dancing and decide later if you want another one. Have FUN!! Jeanne

I am able to tolerate soda, so a drink that I like is a flavored vodka such as Absolut mandarin, with soda and a twist of lime. It's not sweet, and has just 60-70 calories. If you need a bit of sweet, you could ask for just a splash of cranberry-it's very tasty.
