I had an rny distial bypass in October of 2007, My top weight was 367,I am currently 252, I have lost 115lbs, I am thrilled about that, however I have hit a big stall and gained 2lbs. I am currenlty counsuming 3 to 4 shakes per day, plus 3 small meals. Mostly protein, so my total calorie intake is 800 to 1000 per day. I stay away from most carbs.  I do eat them on occasion, I have been increasing my exercise slowly. I am much more active, not a couch potato at all. I am not perfect by any means. I have not touched sugar or milk. I simply don't understand what my body is doing. I am scared about gaining my weight back. Please help. I still  have about 100lbs. I want to loose, any suggestions or support would be so helpful thanks.

First of all congratulations on your weight loss!! It has only been about 7 months and you have lost a considerable amount of weight it that time. If you are following the rules 95% of the time you are probably just on a plateau. Your body has to adjust to all the changes and will start to lose again. It may not be as quickly, but remember you did not gain the weight over night either. You may need to increase your exercising some to increase your metabolism too. Change things up and it might help you start losing again.

Lots of people hit a long stall 6 to 8 months post-op and then start losing again, although at a slower rate than before. I did it too. I had dropped to size 12 and stayed there for several weeks, went shopping and bought lots of clothes, and then started losing weight and sizes again. I was happy about that, but I had lots of size 12's that I couldn't wear. Give it some time, and I bet you'll start losing again. Most people lose for around 18 months unless they hit goal before then.

This is my opinion about this - I would of course consult your surgeon/NUT and talk to them about your struggles. I feel that all your protein at this point should be comming from food.. some people feel protein suppliments are neccesary and good but being you are 7 months out I think 3-4 shakes a day is a lot - what are you eating if you are relying so heavily on shakes?? I would work on getting more food into your diet and weening off the shakes... perhaps 1-2 shakes a day...  Carbs... a healthy adult needs carbs in their body - a minimum of 100 to be exact. You should be getting the majority of carbs from fruits, veggies, dairy as well as whole grains/breads... if you choose to not eat breads/pastas/rice etc that is fine but you should still be getting a decent amount of carbs from the fruits, veggies, dairy.  As for not touching sugar... you have touched sugar.. its impossible to eat 100% sugar free - so while you may not have had 'candy' there is sugar in your diet... fruits have sugar, dairy has sugar, some breads have sugar etc... make sure you keep an eye on that as well - especially when it comes to no/reduced fat foods - food is flavored by fat, salt and sugar... you lower one and typically another, or both are upped. You have to really read labels and see if there is added sugar in there.. and where it falls in the list.  Do you food log? If not I suggest you start... your calories should be comming from approx 40% protein, 30% carbs and 30% fat... see if you are eating balanced and perhaps make some changes as to where your calories are comming from - believe or not you *can* eat too much protein... strive to eat a well balanced diet.

Don't fret...this is a plateau, I had a few in my 22 months.  They are frustrating but you DO get past them.  Try not to step on that scale all the time either...I know it's hard, but it will stress you out and we all know that stress can pack on pounds in weird ways.  Try a different form of exercise to use different muscles rather than the same ones all the time.  This will help burn more calories/fat from places that haven't been touched by your previous exercises...alternate as much as possible to burn evenly.  So no worries yet...it's not like 2 pounds is something extreme...could simply be water weight or bloating especially if it is time for your menstral cycle....
