I made some homemade biscotti this weekend...and I am OUT OF CONTROL!!! I must have eaten at least 4-5 of them today--and the same yesterday and probably the day before that (cannot remember that far back...)  I've been doing so well at staying away from my main trigger foods---chocolate and peanuts. Even done well with having just a few peanuts and not obsessing etc. I exercise 5 times a week...religiously... 50+ minutes of cardio daily and weights every other day-- The week before last I had put on about 2 pounds, so I cut back, ate right and took it right back off---but this week the biscotti is winning. Why is this happening and how do I gain control--do I have to throw the biscotti out ??? :-/ Please help... Kim

Hi Kim! Hang in there. This is a lifelong thing for us! Should you throw out the Biscotti? Here is what I would do-since I can only speak for myself. I try to have a good mix of foods-that includes "snack time". If there is something I have been eating that tends to wander back into my head..let's say I find it TOO SEXY-I throw it out. The rule for me is that it taste good-and can nourish me. If it starts taking up space in my life-like my old eating did-it gets TRASHED with a fury! Maybe next month I could try it again and see if it no longer triggers me-but for today-if it starts becoming "important and glamorous" that is a TOTAL indication that it doesn't NEED to be in my house. Thats my take! Peace and Hugs, Therese

STEP AWAY FROM THE BISCOTTI AND NO ONE WILL GET HURT! Sounds like that is a trigger food for you and you should stay away from it.  Maybe not forever...  well, maybe forever...  lol. I am the same way with sugar free homemade peanut butter cookies.  I will eat a few a day, until... they are no more!  So I remedy it by:  not making them.  Sad but true....  I can own every single kind of sugar free, calorie free, carb free, you name it, cookie in the world and not give a 2nd thought to eating it...  but peanut butter... OH NO!!  I eat them all.

yup. throw those babies out. I don't keep my bad foods around, and I don't bake them either. Food will never be our friend, it will always tempt you. You just have to get back on the horse and get serious. You are your worse enemy, but the good thing is you know your triggers, so just don't go there. That being said....stop baking and buying the junk and get back on the basics, protein, fruits and vegetables!!! You can do this!!

Hi Kim

My out of control trigger food is Plain M & M's .....I LOVE those little guys, so much so that I got soooo disgusted with myself and had no alternative but to THROW them out!  Too much temptation for me and it was winning.....Now I have once again started back on track drinking my water, eating right, cutting out the "S" word sugar from my food consumption....All I can say is I am trying!  With regards to your biscotti, can you freeze them individually?  I know that if I freeze something that I like I find that I am just too lazy to go to the freezer and take the time to defrost whatever it is I wanted away from my nose and mouth to begin with...this way if you freeze them and you really do want to indulge you can take out "just one" from the freezer to satisfy your urge.....GOOD LUCK!  No one ever said this was going to be easy for us!  We have to remember not to abuse our tool.

Hugs

Bariatric Eating has sugar free plain m&m's.  They are not Hershey brand but they are called Zannies.  They are pretty and come in bright pinks, fuschia, white, yellow...  I like them.  They are a bit crunchier than M&Ms but at least you can have a few and not worry about the sugar content or getting addicted to sugars again.

So far this week I've made two killer desserts, a carrot cake and a dump cake (a/k/a cherry crunch). I also plan to make a strawberry cake this weekend. We've got birthdays and some other crap going on right now and I'm the family cook. I usually take a bite or two of whatever it is, and then run around to the neighbors with what's left, usually over half of it. If not, I'll be digging into it all day and night. That dump cake was made in a flat pan and it was real easy to dig at it. My neighbors are all getting fat as hell. If it's something you can't resist, get it away from you. Run from it like it's Satan.

Thank you all for replying to my post---they responses made me laugh--and made me feel better too. The one about getting the neighbors fat was very funny. I can do this...I can do this... The remainder of the biscotti are going into work today! Best, Kim

My feeling is to toss it - there are certain things I try and keep out of the house because I just cannot be trusted around them - no matter how strong you are and how good you are you just have to admit biscotti has its power over you and show it who is boss by trashing it! :-)
