"Are You STILL Losing Weight?"

I'm 19 mos postop.   I am at goal and do not need to lose anymore weight (120 lbs current weight).  My current co-workers never knew me as overweight.  I got this job in November (6 mos ago).  Recently, several at my job asked "Are you STILL losing weight?"  I said, "No, I only lost 5 lbs in the past 12 mos."  They have responded with "Good. You actually  need to gain a few lbs."  Now, I don't think I look like I've lost anymore weight.  What I do think is happening, if possible? is that my weight is shifting around?  Perhaps my body is stabilizing a bit more and the weight/loose skin all that business is just in different places.  I don't know, but it seems to me lately that my body has changed.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Cause I KNOW I have not lost anymore weight.

I hit my goal of 145lbs mid Feb and have held steady since. However, I have clothing that was purchased this year that as more time passed it was fitting looser. I have jeans I wore in Feb and March that come April were baggy in spots. A few weeks ago I went shopping and for the first time fit into a size 6 at Express. My BF also commented to me that I was 'getting skinnier' and he asked if I was still trying to lose weight.  I have noticed as more time has passed, my weight loss extremely slowed down and then stabilized my skin started to finally catch up... areas have improved and tightened up some (if youd call it that... its still all wiggly jiggly lol!!!) The beginning of the year I kicked up my workouts as well as started to train to run a 5k... I started a 2nd job in March and my exercise isnt what it use to be but I keep as active as I can (I move quite a bit at the 2nd job too)... I found that the exercise/weight training has helped to shape my body, tone up and lose some inches... all the while the scale holds steady!

I have posted about this "phenomenon" with me before. Things definitely started to shift around a bit about the 2yr mark. I don't think that I appear like I've lost anymore weight (I've been pretty stable for almost 2yrs now), but I am a little thicker thru the thigh/butt area and smaller in the waist. Thankfully I am still able to comfortably fit into all the same clothes, but I can feel/see the shift. I wonder if its my body "filling in"~losing that saggy look~not sure, but I guess its normal.

Hey, Tracy.  I did the same thing at around two years out.  I got smaller in the waist but a little thicker in the butt/thigh area.  Maybe gravity was at work.  LOL.   Melissa

Unfortunately, I have had the opposite happen - I have remained the same weight for about a year and a half but am getting thicker in the waist.  I am 52, though, and I guess that is sort of natural, but clothes don't fit as well as they did when I first hit this weight...

I'm 22 months out and have been getting this since I hit my goal at 11 months. I think it's possibly that now I have more energy and move around more so therefore I'm gaining muscle (maybe?) and so muscle weighs more than fat and I look smaller but I'm staying the same weight... Maybe not the technical description but it works for me.  That and it's my new addiction to have my family think I'm TOO thin...LOL.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Before Surgery: 214
Highest Weight: 240
Now: 125.6
Goal: 130

I'm with the others...At 2 years ...My legs and butt and belly got firm as did my breasts.  My jeans got tighter but the waist got bigger.  People asked me if I lost weight too and I still 4 years later wear the same clothes.... If I was gonna guess, I'd say it was muscle replacing fat...Lean muscle weighs heavier but takes less room. It's got to be that!  5 pounds on a small body is ENOURMOUS!  You might not see it, but others do. Even if you've replaced muscle with fat...you're going to look skinnier, even though you weigh the same.  That's why I don't go by a number weight to decide where I want to be.  Back in the day of fluff and puff...5 lbs was the difference between whether I had dessert or not!  These days...5 lbs and we're talking almost a size in jeans for me, especially if I lose in my legs and then I can fit a smaller jeans where the waist actually fits too.  That is usually only 5 lbs for me 7 tops.

I sure hope its a GOOD thing! lol Thanks for all your responses.  I hope that things "firm up" and tone up nicely.  I was waiting at the Suntan City tonight and I noticed this lady in line. I was like "Dang girl..." I wanted to ask her where did she buy that arse and boobs cause I needed to know. Jeesh !  I can only WISH and HOPE that I could look like that.  I could not believe it.  It made all the rest of us women in the place look like a Yugo next to a Mercedes. Dang.  At this point, i would settle on being an Oldsmobile.

Hi everyone.  I am new here and came across this post in my browsing frenzy.  I am 22 months out and have felt like this for the past 6 months.  I am still losing, but at a VERY slow rate...I think I had lost only 11 pounds in the past 6 months.  But  I too have noticed that the waist of all my jeans is big to the point where I had to go out and buy my very first belt EVER!  But on the other hand, my thighs are filling the pants in nicely now.  I bike and run/walk (run until the saddlebag and thigh giggles hurt too much, then walk the rest of my 2-3 miles) so I think it is muscle filling in my legs and fat burning off my belly.  One kind of cancels out the other on the scale I would think.  It's good to know that there are others who are going through this too...makes me feel less awkward/freakish :) Lynne
