How do you put the brakes on?!

My biggest concern is "bounce back" that everyone talks about. I don't want to get into the bad habits again, thinking that I have to put the brakes on myself just to gain a 10-20 pound "bounce". When my body got to the lowest point, my goal was to maintain that. Then I SLOWLY increased my calories to see what I could manage. I keep really good track of it and journal my food so I know when I'm messing up. I've added some snacks but always protein first and no sugar at all.  And I added caffeine. I heard it's an appetite stimulant but it's in so many diet pills, how is that? So I just add more water to cover the dieretic effect. And if it does stimulate my appetite, I can afford it. I'm up to eating three smallish meals a day and three snacks if I have dessert too. Most days three meals and two snacks and lots and lots of water. I don't drink after eating for 30 minutes (sometimes closer to an hour depending on how well the meal goes down) but it's all about recognizing the sensation of being full so I go slow.  I'm within a fraction of a pound of where I was in June of last year at my final surgeon appointment. I think that's maintaining..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Looking at your weightloss stats, I doubt that you'll gain anywhere near 20 lbs. It is my understanding that you expect about a 10% bounce back if that does happen. So I would think that you would be at the most at risk of 10 lbs....I have been increasing my calories because like you, I would just like to maintain the weightloss, but we'll see what hopens.

Since you are within just one pound of where you were about a year ago, I would say yes, you are doing a great job at maintaining.

I would gain 10 pounds kicking and screaming the whole way...LOL. I know I should but I just can't seem to let myself gain any weight..It will have to be through exercise, not eating, if I do gain any weight at all.

My NUT said to slow down/stop weight loss your eating should be 30% protein/40% carbs/30% fat. She had told me to add an additional 100 calories (approx) at a time via carbs (bread/starch ones) and see if that helped... she did say to do it in 2 week incriments and if after 6-8 weeks I was still losing to go back and see her again for additional help.

Hi Jenn,

I actually have about that breakdown and I don't understand why I keep losing. I have been running about 1800 calories a day. I can't believe that I'll need much more than that ... but maybe. I have a call in to my Nut to see what he has to say.

Thanks for the input,

Barb

The only thing I can think of is to look at where your carbs are comming from - for 1800 calories my guess would be 3-4 carbs servings comming from the bread/starch catergory.

I lost a lot more weight than I expected and was afraid I'd drop too low. But I slowed down a whole lot and stopped losing after 16 months. I've been told I'm too skinny, and got a sermon preached to me last night about it by my kids, but I expect some rebound any time now and sure don't want to go back to old habits to try to regain. Most people don't get waaay too little before they even off and bounce back a little bit. Honestly, did you ever think you'd ever have to worry about being too skinny?

Hi Wanda,

You are right, I never thought I'd ever worry about being too thin.

Thanks for your note.
