My plastic surgery was approved by insurance but now I'm starting to wonder if I should do it.

I got the call from the surgeon's office saying it was approved and wanting to set it up. I really want to have it done but now I'm starting to think the doctor I'm going to isn't very good or something.

I asked on here and could only find one person who's gone to this surgeon. And when I asked for references from their office I was given only one name and number and was told that's all they were giving me.

Another surgery scares me some anyway but this on top of it is making me panic to the point I'm thinking of backing out of doing it at all. I don't want to do that.

So does this sound fishy to anyone else? Only one person I can find with firsthand experience and they will only give me the contact info for one person?

Are there any other plastic surgeons on your insurance list? Generally, they approve the procedure, not necessarily the surgeon, so changing surgeons shouldn't cause any problem with your insurance. Call them and ask. I changed WLS surgeons a couple of weeks before my RNY and had no problem with the insurance.

I say go with your gut on this one.  If you don't feel comfortable with the surgeon then find another one. I would be very leary of an office that only gave me one reference and they were a bit rude while doing it.   Call your insurance and ask who else you could see in your area.  If insurance approves them they should be pretty good as the docs have to undergo a lot of scrutiny to be approved.  I used to work for a health insurance company and I always used their docs.

Yep, definitely go with your instincts.  I did had the same feeling with my original choice for my bariatric surgeon.  Even though I knew people that had gone to the same facility and were OK.  I on the other hand when I went, was very "not so much".  At the same time of having those doubts, my insurance changed and had to change surgeons.  Anyways, I would definitely go with your instincts.  I would check with your insurance to see a list of providers, coverage of your procedure shouldn't still be same.

Dawn, I agree with the others posters, if you don't feel the doctor/patient comfort then change doctors.  I do find that weird that they would share only one patient, sounds fishy to me. Please don't let the doctor discourage you from plastic surgery especially since your insurance will cover.....find another doc on your plan and consult them him/her. Good luck,

Everyone is right, definitely trust your instincts.  The worst thing that can happen if you don't do it is you have excess skin, the worst if you do is death or disfigurement. There has to be a reason they'll only give you one.  Perhaps the don't have more or they don't  have incredible results and don't people who sing the doctors praises. Good luck!

Go with your instincts!!! When choosing a PS you typically want to go to one that has experience with post-WLS patients... its my understanding that we have different issues than others who may be seeking the same procedure. If you find a PS that has dealt with other WLS patients then there should be plently of other people for you to speak with.  Have you tried to contact your states plastic surgery board where the surgeon is registered? What credentials do they have? certifications? That would be another good place to start - see if theyve had any complaints, suspension of license, lawsuits etc.
