I slipped up over the winter and started smoking again, sigh, I got Chatrix from my Dr and thought I would give it a try, since I know a whole lot of folks who have had sucess with it. Alas, it did NOT agree with my pouch.  One of the possible side effects is stomach irritation and after 3 days not only was my pouch irritated, I was dry heaving when I would take it!   So I stopped using it.  So if you are paying for your chantrix out of pocket, it would be an expensive possible mistake.   If your insurance is paying for it, go ahead and give it a try bu****ch for reaction. By the way I did stop smoking, I had laser acupuncture again.  I stopped smoking 8 yrs ago that way and had no problms till this past winter when things became overwhelming and I started up again, thinking just 1 won't hurt.  DUHHHH can you say addiction?  So I finally found the number of the  place I had used before and went back.   No more smokes! Good Luck with your quitting, and remember don't quit.....quitting!

I'm not a smoker, but I know a few people that have tried Chantix~its about 50/50 for the people I know~50% success and 50% failure. one friend suffers from serious depression issues (on a couples meds for this) and although she did stop smoking while taking Chantix, it threw her into a serious cycle of depression that the dr's have  now attributed directly to the Chantix. Anyway, if you give it a try I hope you will be successful~I think its worth a try.

My daughter used Chantix and she did not have WLS (doesn't need it), and had horrific side effects.  Her stomach is still messed up after only 3 weeks on it and her asthma has returned after being dormant for twenty four years (she is 29).   She has been telling horror stories about others she has heard of now that she's off it.  I would suggest really researching it, especially after WLS and our sensitive pouchies.

I tried it and it works but only if I continue to take it, and within seconds of taking it my stomach is on fire. For me the stomach pain is not worth it.  WLS Feb 2006

Have a good friend that did it pre WLS in preparation of the surgery, within 4 days she didn't even crave a smoke and hasnt since...she quit last June and says it worked great for her.
