I'm Around Again

It's been a while since I was on here and I can tell that things have changed for me by staying away.  I was really busy then we went on a cruise but now I'm back and I'm going to get into the swing of things again.  The first thing I need to do is to start using www.fitday.com to track my food again.   I have also met with a new surgeon and after having two upper GI's I now know that I will require a revision to my 1999 open RnY.  The great thing is that the revision will be done via lap so I won't have to be completely open again.   I will not be having this done for at least 18 months though as I would like to have another child before having the revision. It turns out that my stomach opening is about twice the size it should be.  I also have a part of my small intestine that is a "dead end".  This means that there is some food going into but there isn't anywhere for the food to go.  It does empty itself but it is contributing to the weight gain.   I'm glad to know the reasons behind some of my weight gain and issues losing it after having a baby.  It stinks that I will require a revision though.  On the other hand I now feel like there is a light atthe end of the tunnel, so to speak.  I know what it's going to take and I have a general idea of when.

So with the opening of your pouch being to big then you are able to eat more & this is preventing you from losing more. Is this correct? and the revision will make the hole smaller so you will be back to what you were at the beginning. Right?  Just curious.

Correct.  The doc said if the opening was this big and I was maintaining he wouldn't want to revise anything, but that's not the case.  So yes a revision would make it smaller again, just like your typical post op patient.

Well that must give you a little peace of mind....At least you aren't in the dark feeling hopeless. So you better get busy on that baby!  LOL  I'm kidding...Practice makes perfect!  LOL  That dead end intestine thing is quite curious...Once something makes me curious I gotta read all about it!  LOL  Thanks!   Glad you are feeling up!  I'm still jealous about the cruise...I'm gonna have to do that soon!!!! Thanks for the reply.  I have just heard a lot about Stomaphyxx, Rose, etc.  I thought you might be having one of them.  I had RNY 3/2005.  I am told my stoma is size of quarter and should be size of dime.  I struggle with regain on a daily basis. Patricia

They actually taped a quarter to the xray machine to compare the size of mine.  Not sure if it was exactly that big or not.  Since I also have the small intestine issue I will not be getting the Stomaphyx done.  Besides, Stomaphyx is so new that insurance won't start covering it for a few years.

What caused it to get to the size of a quarter?

My doctor says maybe eating and drinking at the same time--which I have not been quilty of too much.  He also said it might be just something that happened.  To tell the truth, I am not real good about chewing my food enough and maybe i just ate too much sometimes.  Maybe I did this to myself. I quess I have to deal with it now.         He told me this about two years ago.  He told me I would not lose any more weight.  i weighed about 139 then.  Well I lost another 15 pounds, and now I have gained them back.   I wonder if this is just the weight I should be.  If it is, I can live with it.  Really I am afraid, I might keep on gaining.  So I continually monitor my weight, etc.  I am 5'1" so 139 is okay.  Really I liked being 125, but.... I doubt any doctor would do a stomaphyxx on me, because I am not that big.  I am not sure I would put myself through that for 15 pounds that may or may not stay off. I hate to say this, but I am 62 years old.  I should probably be happy that I am somewhat thin and healthy.  Forgive me, all you young girls, but I do not feel 62.  I feel 40 and want to look GOOD.  I know this is hard for you younger girls to understand, but I do not feel my age.  I like looking good, wearing nice clothes and feeling sexy.  I do count my blessings and know how fortune I am to have had the surgery.  PLEASE do not flame me.  Patricia 3/11/2005  RNY 262/125/139 5'1"
