B complex question
Jenn,
I do my vits daily. I take a 5000 mcg B12 sublingually daily and have a B12 level of 1400 or so. It is just above normal range but my doc "likes it high". I built up to that dose. I started at 500 mcg/day after surgery.
I do two B 100 complex orally via capsules. I do not do a separate B1 since the B 100 complex has 100 mg of B1 in each.

I take a B complex chewable/sublingual (Vitalady)...It is one of the foulest tasting vitamins I ever tasted. I gag...But I found that if I chew it with my two Centrum chewables the taste is disguised and much easier on the palate. I also have B complex capsules that I take as an alternate when am feeling mighty brave (I only take this weekly as it is a super high dosage of B vits)...I open the cap and swallow the powder with water...YECH! Nasty! I have taken a sublingual B-12 from Trader Joe's faithfully for 4 years...My B 12 1000 and my test was 1127! That's high...but I'm taking it...At least it's not a toxic vitamin as far as they know! My folate was 19.4 (4.2-19.9 normal ranges) and my B1 was 27 (9-44 normal ranges)
B Vits taste awful just awful...But you really can't expect any results unless it is sublingual...I might try that capsule in a tiny bit of Orange juice and see if it is doable that way. Nasty stuff! LOL
B Vitamins can be taken orally but the B12 in it isn't going to be absorbed.
I do 2 B-100 capsules daily. That is a big dose but it keeps neuropathy away.
Can't you swallow capsules, Anita? They go down fine for me. I take most vitamins in capsules... multi, dry D, B complex, etc. Geez, I wouldn't empty them... that'd be yucky! LOL!

You take 2? TWO??? B-100's?...That's a lot of B's! I take one, once a week! The sublingual one I chew daily with my multi-vitamins is 1/3 the dosage of the B-100... Plus, I use a sublingual B 12 and am absorbing it just fine. (nothing else gets absorbed BUT my B vits! ) I'm unique! LOL
I admit I have a difficult time swallowing anything that is not chewed to death. As soon as those giant capsule**** the back of my throat, I gag. I can handle some small pills, but I just got so used to opening all my capsules or chewing any tablets. Those B Vits are DISGUSTING!!! There is nothing on this planet quite as yucky! I'm trying to get myself to better swallow capsules...It would make daily vitamin taking soooo much easier for me if I could just get them down without that gagging reflex. I think much of it is psychological from pre-op and being afraid of getting food stuck...or a pill stuck. I once got a gel cap stuck for several hours in my stoma and it was soooo annoying at first and then got to be painful enough that it make me nauseous. Since then I have not been able to swallow anything much larger than a lentil. I'm working on it because Copper is almost if not as bad as B Vits...I gag anyway so I might as well learn to swallow them! LOL
My sublingual B12 is working fine too!
I understand the swallowing pill thang. I didn't swallow them til my 20s. I had that gag reflex. I remember as a kid my mother throwing one down my throat as I was crying. Nice, eh? LOL.
As for tablets... I cut the crap out of everything. Quarters. Eighths. Whatever. I spent 3-4 days in the hospital with chest pains. The pain stayed with me for 30 days. Then I figured out it was esophageal spasms from my pills. DOH!

OH GOOD! That is good to know...because I sometimes give it a few chews and swallow! LOL I hate them! But I don't taste them so much with the chewable Centrums...so that has helped quite a bit. I have always taken B vitamins...ever since I was a young woman...but I never really looked at malabsorption until 3 months ago...Better late than never! :) It's good to know the differences with each vitamin...What a pain in the arse!
Lately I have been having trouble with the UPCal D...I might need to start mixing into water first (like it says to do)...because I just pour it in my mouth with a little bit of water and swi**** around with magnesium powder too....and many times, I breathe and it either goes up into my sinuses or down the ole wind pipe and what a bad feeling that is! ( I coughed for an hour last night) Then I was thinking...I wonder if mag and calcium is more absorbable up the nose or in the lungs! LOL (That's a joke) I have got to find a better way because I was only taking it twice a day and now I am taking it four times a day! And at least once a day I snort it by accident. These vits and supps seem to run my life lately! Both literally and physically
