need advice
someone suggestedi repost this here, so here it goes
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Neely and i am fromScottsdale AZ. I had Open RNY on 4-4-02 and have done pretty good till recently. I had a bouncing baby boy on Feb 20 2007. I was 253 on date of surgery and i am 138 currently. I gained 60 pounds with pregnancy and have lost it all and then some in the last 15 months. I come to you all with the need for advice or help or suggestions. For the last few weeks not i have had some upper rt quadrent pain. Basically from the midline (scar) to the right and the waist up to under the right ribs. Sometimes i feel like there is alot of pressure (like someone stuck a ball or something ) under my right ribs, same feeling in the waist area and sharp pains that come an go along the midline (near scar) and under the ribs on the right. I am Bypassed and transected (surgeon made a double staple line and cut almost completly through to almost create 2 seperate stomachs) He also removed my Gall bladder when i had the bypass. I dunno why but i have this fear that a staple has come loose. I spoke to my surgeon a few weeks ago at my 6 year and he reassured me that though anything is possible, 6 years out there is usualy no way to have a staple line disruption. After the first few weeks, the staple line heals and seals like it was supposed to be that way and the staples scar over and become "perminent". Even my primary care doc tells me it's all healed. So no one knows why i am having pain and the only thing they did was an ultrasound which came out normal. Yet it hurst and is tender to the touch I dunno why i have the fear that a staple has come loose or something is wrong with the surgery. I know i am in pain (sometimes) and uncomfortable other times, but none of my docs seems concerned. Am i crazy? even an ER doc didnt think anything was "wrong" Hasd anyone else had any similar problems??? any suggestions?
Neely, I'm no expert on staple line problems, but I just wanted to say, be patient with us. Friday nights are very slow on this board.
I do think though that you should have an upper GI to ensure that everything is intact. I had my PCP give me one just because I wanted to be certain. I had to create some symptoms to get it covered. You don't need to!
Congrats on the healthy baby and the great job you did losing the baby weight! That a great accomplishment.
I have a good friend who lives in Scottsdale, the Troon area. I really like it there, so pretty! But not in the summer!

What about an ulcer? I had an ulcer that caused pain similar to what you are describing. THe way it was definately diagnosed was with an endoscopy.. (Scope down into pouch and stomach). Don't give up on ths because if t s an ulcer it could cause alot of problems if it is let go. Good luck

sometimes docs will prescribe anti ulcer medications to see if things clear u p, but are the pains worse with or after eating at all or when you lay down? Also, did you have any unusual listing or activities ? Right lower quadrant pain with nausea could be appendix. I think you have to follow your "gut" literally and figuratively and press for more tests. Better err on the side of caution, but new pain, recurrent pain, and tender to tough pain means something.
Take a deep breath, stay calm, call your doc. Keep us posted. praying for you!

I don't have any ideas on what's causing the pain, but I do believe that if you feel something is wrong, then follow up with your docs until you find an answer! I have seen too many times where dr's are sure its not this or that and then it ends up being something after all. Trust your instincts~see what tests they can run for you. You shouldn't have to live with pain! Good Luck and keep us posted.
