I have the opposite problem, very high PTH level of 197.  My calcium is fine now, with extra supplements, but my D3 is low, (taking an extra 2000 IU daily). My DEXA scan showed Osteoporosis, so I was referred to a Rheumatologist.  He gives me BONIVA infusions every 3 months.  He has now referred me to an Endocrinologist for the hyper-parathyroid problem.  I am getting so tired of seeing new doctors all the time! In theory, that could be fixed in about 3 months. That is, bring the D up, PTH down and within 6 months, obtain totally normal readings. UNLESS there are growths, which is rare.

Secondary HYPER PTH is expectable and preventable after WLS. Easy to fix, if you know how. BUT there is no undoing the bone damage, only preventing further.

Some I'm working with went from PTH of 198 in Jan to 65 by April. High normal, but that threw her into the semi safety zone. Very anxious to see her 6 months labs to see if she goes completely into the safe zone, with D around 70-100, and PTH down 20-40.

I fixed mine & my dh. So, I know it can be done. But when I told my endo how I did this, he was going..... WHAT? You used what? You can buy that? LOLOL

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Michelle, Exactly what do I need to do to correct this?  Am I taking enough dry D, with 2000 IU daily?   I can't add Vit K, because I'm on Coumadin! Please help!,  Pamela

Then no, don't take K! There's a warning on every bottle, even the K2.

I'll write privately.

I had hyperparathryoidism prior to my RNY. It's still not controlled well despite taking prescription doses of Vitamin D. I'm not sure I can give any advice except not to freak out too much and make sure you have a good doctor to take care of you.
