Wondering what others do when head hunger hits you at work and you can't leave your desk! I'm struggling with it now and would like to know what others do to distract themselves. Thanks.

Hi! I struggle with this issue CONSTANTLY!!! so, don't feel bad. I work at a desk, Monday through Friday. When I get to work and sit at the computer, I am like, ok, what can I eat??? I eat all day long a lot of the time. On the weekends when I am at home all day, I am actually GOOD!! Is that weird or what???? Anyhow, I don't really have any good advice for you and your question about distraction, but I DO want you to know that you are not alone so do not feel bad ok? Good luck to both of us! I have a small fridge next to my desk.  I keep all kinds of different protein drinks in there.  I have water.  I also have a microwave, magic bullet and cabinet full of protein powders.  I do keep some sugar free chocolate, although I only eat one square every few weeks.  I also have nuts which I might resort to 2 tblsp every few weeks as well.  I have Kay's Naturals protein chips which I eat 5 with my lunch about 2 x a week.  Mostly, I grab a protein drink and that keeps the snackies away.  When I get the munchies, I will get protein shakes.  If that doesn't help, sometimes I will take a tiny piece of a protein bar.  sometimes I get a sugar free sucker. One day this week I grabbed a small bag of 9 carbs smart popcorn white cheddar, and ate about 1/3 of that.  I guess I just needed some carbs or something... it was period time!  so that's why I wanted it I think.

That is a good idea, it sounds like you have planned very well......plus, you are eating healthy when you do snack.  My problem is that I want M & M's after lunch and we have a whole shelf full of them at work.....which is only a few yards away from my desk!!!!!  So, I struggle with that ALL the time!!!!! Anyhow, good luck to us all! Lorri

I started this particular job at the first of November.  Vendors were always bringing food!  There would be an entire table full every day... cinnamon rolls larger than hubcaps!  There were so many cakes, pies, chocolate... M&M's, Hershey kisses, you name it.  I stressed at the new job so for about two weeks I would come into the break room and nibble a little of this, a little of that...  I had to stop myself before it got out of control.  I finally brought a Valor sugar free candy bar to work and placed it in my desk drawer nearest to me.  I know its there at all times... should I need it.  Sometimes if I get the hankering for chocolate, and see chocolate candy bars around the office, I will allow myself one square of the candy bar.  That always takes my desire and craving away.  Since I started this job, the vendors no longer bring food.  We have stopped that and put a policy into place where they are not even allowed up on our floor unless they  have permission and call ahead.  No longer is there food everywhere...  and the ladies are on diets now... trying to lose weight...  I'm actually the "weigh master".  I get the job of weighing them each Monday morning and taking their $1 fee or $2 if they gained!  LOL.  That is hilarious.  Me, a weigh master!

The issues of eating while at your desk. really really stink.

I have the same problem. I went to a WLS Conference this weekend here in Texas. One of the suggestions on how to handle the eating at your desk during work was to place a bowl of something that you can grab and eat right away. She placed radishes in her bowl. She says she will eat one and feel full. I am going to place a bowl of cherry tomatos on my desk. I can eat them and it will not put too many calories or carbs in my daily totals. I eat because I am nervous and stressed. I have a new position where I have worked for 13 yrs. It is a challenge and it has shown on my scale....

Good Luck...

Smile, it increases your face value.
