"hi my name is corinne, and i'm a soda-holic." is anyone else having this problem?  i'm so angry with myself with this soda problem.  i hate water, so if i'm going to drink it, i have to disguise it.  i love my soda, and it's to the point where i can drink it all day.  i'm sure that it has stretched my pouch, and it bloats me terribly.  i'll be 3 years post op this august, and i have lost 90+ pounds.  i had a baby in october, and have since gone back on the birth control pill, which helps increase my appetite, and i have gained 13 lbs.  i feel discouraged, and for some reason, i'm feeling like this 13 lbs is the end of the world, like i ruined what i've accomplished.  yet, i still continue to make the wrong choices, hence the soda! is anyone else having this prob?  i'd like to know that i'm not alone.  i am also open to anyone's suggestions on how to kick this soda habit, re-set my mind back to where i need to be, and get those 13 lbs off, and maybe another 20 after that.  thanks.

Hi, my name is Elisa, and I am addicted to Diet Mt. Dew.  Oh the shame!!  My nutritionist wants me off all artifical sweetners, so i am working to wean myself off the diet soda (I did give up the Crystal Lite).  I was drinking at least 4 - 20oz bottles of Diet Mt. Dew a day, and I am down to 2.  I am going to decrease my intake over time.  I just started drinking Kool Aid made with Stevia - not bad.  I do like water, and do drink about 60 oz a day, but I sometimes get sick of it.  I just have to find a way to get my morning caffine in - I am not a big coffee drinker, but I think I will need to make the switch. We can do it!!  Try to decrease your intake a little at a time.  Good luck!!

What is wrong with artificial sweetners? I drink about 3 cups of coffee a day with 4 packets of equal in each one. I also drink 1 maybe 2 cups of diet orange everyday, and no water. I have gained 15 lbs since 2006. I can eat anything I really want too, but I cant seem to lose.

My NUT says artificial sweetners trick the body into thinking it is going to get something sweet.    There have also been some recent studies suggesting that people who drink diet soda gain their weight back.  I've also read a bunch of other stuff on the net about how bad splenda is for us (don't know if it is true or not).    I have tried Stevia, and I must say, it is good.  I often feel more thirsty after drinking a diet soda / crystal light than I do when I just drink plain water or a drink sweetened with Stevia- so maybe there is something there?  Oh well, I guess I can give up my last vice - LOL!!

I think diet sodas are like most things we aren't supposed to have, the more you have, the more you want. I haven't had trouble doing without them, but I do drink other things that aren't good either. I hate the taste of plain water, but I drink a lot of the lightly flavored water (Fruit 2O and Aqua Cal). Some people hate those too. It's a shame those vitamin waters have so many calories. Congratulations on your new baby, and it's an accomplishment that you've only got 13 extra pounds after 3 years and a baby.

I gave up Diet Coke several months ago!  I don't even miss it. I drink mostly water with a little ice...and when I need a little something extra...I put a squeeze of lemon or lime and maybe a drop or two of Stevia sweetener (all natural plant)  And that's enough to change that boring water flavor for a little change!  I have saved so much money since there is no soda in the house....My family drinks water or juices...I can't handle juice though...It burns the heck outta my pouch and the sugar content KILLS me for a few hours...so I don't even bother with juice... Just getting rid of the junk foods and drinks in my house both my husband and I lost 10-15 lbs since the holidays. We're not perfect...but cutting out the majority of that stuff will make a HUGE difference in your life...Replace it with fresh fruits and veggies and protein snacks. (More lower cal meals like fish twice a week helped too) That's all I did

Gosh. I quit taking the pill cuz I thought it was making me lose weight...I don't think it puts weight on me. It sure doesn't do anything to my appetite... I gave up soda just before surgery and now i just drink water with the flavor packets. ALTHOUGH...I do not intend to give up caffeine. I'm totally addicted to that and can relate in that way.  I think I'd sleep for two weeks straight if I didn't have my coffee and morning spark...Hangs head in shame..
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

TruLemon (also comes in lime and orange) is a great way to flavor water.  It tastes like you added the fresh fruit, but it comes in packets and doesn't spoil.  Put in some Splenda or Stevia if you want to sweeten it. You can find it in most grocery stores, in mine it's near the Splenda. www.trulemon.com Michele

I haven't had more than a sip of soda since surgery. My thing is keeping my electrilytes up. So dr recommended 1/4 gaterade to 3/4 water and ice. Tastes great and I drink about 10 of them aday - not problems with fluid intake for me.  Give it a try.

Hi Corinne!  My name is Sheila.  I just started the 5DPT on Monday.  I don't know how much diet soda you are drinking, but on last Sunday, I drank 18 diet Pepsi!  THE SHAME!!  Well, I didn't go completely cold turkey on the soda.  I have not bought any to keep in the home.  I was buying up to 5 cases a week just for myself.  Now I only buy it if I leave the house, I'll get one.  On the 5 day pouch test, I have lost 8 pounds since Monday morning.  I am doing strickly proteins.  I can tell already a big difference.  Without the soda, I am NOT bloated and do not have gas as bad.  My pouch is not holding very much.  I was only able to eat 2 ozs. of extra lean ground beef and half a cup of FF cottage cheese for dinner last night.  I ended up eating to fast and all the cottage cheese came back up.  I am post op 3 years as of Jan. 7th of this year.  I had gotten very lazy in the way I was eating.  Now that I am back to basics, I plan on losing the other 28 pounds that I have gained.  I have started exercising for the first time since my RNY.  If I get hungry inbetween meals, I chew SF gum.  Have you tried Crystal Light?  They have many different flavors that are really good.  I quit drinking it because it was hurting my pouch.  I also drink ice tea sweetened with Splenda.  If you want, we can do this together.  It's hard but since the honeymoon is over but I think that once we get back to basics, the weight will come off.

Sheila
