RNYers - do you eat until full or pre-measured amounts?

WOWEE Jenny!  You look fantastic!  You should be proud! It's good you follow rules! I did for the first two years...and little by little after the weight loss stopped, I noticed my appetite got bigger as I worked out more and began to maintain. I realized I had to stop where I was and weigh my food so I didn't begin to eat more and gain!  I have basically maintained my weight loss these four years...(I get a little off track and gain at the holidays, but always get myself back on track)  I'm too scared to totally let it get away from me....I think it would be easy to do. Which leads me back to your question.... When I eat tilI am full there is no doubt I gain weight and feel miserable. I get gassy and end up with even more hunger shortly after meals...It's not worth it to feel like that. I measure out a serving more often than not when I am not feeling in control especially.  I can guess very well at meat weights and almost always guess corrrect when I do measure...So I got that down...but other things like pastas, rice and cereals, I try to measure out and not take seconds...I never ever eat out of a bag or large community bowl...I take my serving size and don't go back for more. It keeps me honest to myself!  (I'm good at trying to trick myself into being naughty with food...but I rarely do since I know I'm only hurting myself! LOL)   So yes...I do measure for the most part...but I also try for lean foods that give good protein counts.  I eat several meals a day...3 main meals and 3 snacks to curbs hunger and get extra protein or my personal goal of at least 5 different fruits or veggies daily...that I cannot eat in one sitting.  I recently began logging my food in a journal, and until recently never kept track of carbs or fats....It seems now they rule my life which has been very annoying and bothersome to me since I never really watched those things before and kept my weight maintained...Now that I am watching my fat and carb intake I find that I am eating more, but leaner...And before I ate more carb and more fat but less calories!  I dunno which is actually better or worse. All I know is I am still maintaining...and not starving to do it.  So...I guess there are several ways to do it.  And several ways to over do it!  Find what works for you! Don't eat til full though...that's a big huge mistake.  and if you relly don't know what makes you full...definately measure the food to be sure...Then go from there and add more or take away more depending how you feel!   Good luck!

I don't exactly "measure"  I know what an ounze of food looks - so I eyeball during food prep. I prep my foods AFTER I've eaten a small snack so I don't eye ball my food while hungry. Generally I'll pre-prepare dinner after lunch or snack so I know what I'm having that night.  Breakfast and lunch are easy peasy - it's Dinner and snacks I struggle with. So I make sure I have prepped amounts of the sort of foods I can eat always at hand so I don't go getting all out of control. This dosn't mean I don't occasionally. I AM human. But so far so good.  YOU! By the way, look amazing!  It's nice to see what working (nor not) for everyone else.

I portion my food, like 3-4 oz meat, 1/2 cup green beans, etc. The problem is, I get full before i finish what i intend to eat. Food is almost always left on my plate. I was given a slightly larger pouch than most people, and at almost 32 months out, I feel it's not much bigger than it was soon after surgery. At least not hugely stretched, and i stay full for a long time. So I'd say I eat until I feel pretty full, but not stuffed. I have done stuffed, and felt like **** for hours. I hate that feeling.

I don't measure, at this point and I don't count calories. I do pay attention to what I eat, though. I'm pretty much sugar free--at least very low sugar. I don't eat junk food. I eat when I am hungry. I do better when I eat several times a day, rather than just three meals. I eat until I'm full, but that usually isn't very much. Some days, I'm just not hungry and then other days, I am. It's kinda strange!  You look great, Jenny. Congratulations! Sticking with the protein first rule, is always important, but since I haven't counted calories since my RNY, I'm not sure what to tell you about that. I've just always eaten when I'm hungry. It works for me, but like you said, we're all so different. There's always exercise to boost your metabolism. If you have to add a little more food, maybe add a walk or something to make up the difference. I wish you continued good luck with your journey.

I'm an obsessive sort of eater.  As in I eat the same lunch, day in and day out, because I know where it fits in my plan calorie/nutrient wise (1 slice wheat bread, 2 oz meat, 1 oz cheese).  I eat the same meals, drink  the same amount of milk, etc., to stay within my plan (1200 cal).  It's simple, and kind of fits with my "food is fuel" philosophy.  Best to you Jenny, you are looking AWESOME!!
