Update on bloating/pain issues

I spent hours in the ER last night, and most of the day today at the hospital having tests.... Ugh. Last night after having dinner, I sudden was doubled over and my belly was soo soo soo bloated and distended... I looked like I was 6 months pregnant.  I was so sick and in so much pain!!  I called the surgeon and he said to go to the ER..... so I did.  So far, the gall bladder ultrasound showed that I had no stones. Now, I am waiting for the Hipa Scan to come back.... If that shows clear, then I will have to get a scope to check for an ulcer... Then if that is clean, I get a CAT scan. BLAH. So no real answers....

I hate when there are no answers. My brain is screaming WHY WHY WHY? and not a single person can tell me... Keep us updated.  What is a Hipa Scan? I'm clueless.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

Please call your WLS doctor.  You could have a hernia in the Peterson's space.  This is often called an "invisible hernia" as it does not show up on scans due to it's location.  Your WLS should know how to diagnose this quickly.  Check out my profile--I had this type of hernia resulting in a bowel obstruction at aprox 14 months out. Good luck.

Sorry hiDa, not hiPa... my bad.... At any rate, the Hida scan checks for gall bladder function.  And I guess I wasnt very clear... I went to the ER last night, but first thing this am I was at my surgeons' hospital w/ his staff. They are the ones who are in charge of my care now! ;)

If your tests show nothing, ask your surgeon about small bowel bacterial overgrowth.  That's what I'm dealing with.  I had GB out for other reasons a few years ago so that wasn't it in my case.  Had exploratory lap surgery and no hernia found (but doc did close off the mesenteric defect so I wouldn't get an internal hernia there) but there was one adhesion which the doc cleared it but my problems continued so the adhesion wasn't the problem. Probiotics really, really helps this issue.  Avoiding gassy foods helps too.  The base treatment is antibioticis. Good luck, Kathy

Thank you Kathy. I will keep this in mind too. I am scheduled to have the endoscopy on May 8th... They still havn'et called w/ the results of the Hida scan... I am sticking w/ liquids for now... I feel ok right now so I think I'll avoid heavy foods for a few days.
