A friend and I were wondering.....

being a wls patient, would the "old diets" (weigh****chers, biggest loser) work for us now?  These diets are based on portion control and whole foods.  For example, the biggest loser is a 4-3-2-1 food  pyramid....4 servings of fruits and veggies, 3 servings of protien, 2 servings of whole grains, 200 calories extra...sf jello, condiments, dressings. They are big into food journaling and exercise.  What do you think?

I haven't really tried any of the other diets such as WW since surgery but before hand DH and I were both on it.  While we were there I was looking for inspiration for times such as now and from what I saw, there is some but we need to do some re-arranging. Our Protein has to always come first and in larger amounts then the rest of our food.  According to my Bariatric group Protein = fruits, veggies and carbs always.   I am sure I will not follow that faithfully but will try for the most part to make it equal out.     WW does have a chart where your Protein comes first, I may still have a copy and see what it says.  And then they have another one that is more "balanced" as in the normal way for WW. I think the biggest part of all diets/lifestyles is going to be the portion control and journeling.  Strict accountability.  I know in the past I have said I am not going to count that 1 cookie, cause it is just one, but when I look back it wasn't just one, it was just one here and just one there!  This is distant past mind you.  I hope I have learned my lesson! I know after this weekend I have to get back on track, had a badddd eating weekend, first in a long time and do not want to repeat it soon!  So today, I am measuring and journeling everything!

I haven't personally tried any of them, but I know alot of people here that are doing WW for maintainance and/or to lose the last 10-20lbs and they seem to be pretty successful with it!

I think WW would be a good idea. I couldn't manage those tiny little portions before RNY, but I may try it if I start regaining. The food pyramid from the Biggest Loser is similar to what my nut has told me to follow, only I was supposed to put protein first and not second, so that one might work as well. I was always told to eat 3 bites of protein, 2 bites of veggies, and 1 bite of a carb (preferably a "good" carb), and I should be fine. Now, I just need to do that more often!

You can eat any way you want to try, but remember the first rule: eat the protein first.  As long as you do that and get as well a balanced diet as possible, then any eating regimine would probably work fine.
