Gas/ Bloating getting worse day by day...

I did a search and really didn't find any answers, so I'm posting here to see if anyone has an suggestions for me. A few days ago, I started feeling very bloated and a "full" feeling in my upper abdominal area, right under my ribs especially on both sides.  I knew that it was getting close to my cycle, which did start  two days ago, so i figured it had to do with that. Well, now I am almost done with that but everyday the bloat and gas is getting worse.  Today when I ate my lunch I burped all the way through it, and a ton after.  Uncontrollably, (which was embarassing b/c I was in public).... I ate some cheese, a couple crackers, spinach dip and veggies and dip... I was at a jewelry party. I've eaten all of these things before w/ no problem. At any rate, this bloated gassy feeling isn't leaving no matter what.... I am not eating any new foods.... Today I've had  iced coffee w/ skim milk 1 protein bar the above lunch deli turkey 1 wheat english muffin w/ ff cream cheese I don't know what is going on, but I feel so HUGE, and SWOLLEN and UNCOMFY and it HURTS!!  I am still having a BM daily too.... I have no idea what's going on!!  Any ideas? And how do I get rid of it!?!?!

go straight to the ER. I had the same symptoms and it I kept telling everyone I had the worst gas pains ever. I went to my dr. and had a sonnogram for my gallbladder and it was okay. i suffered for another week, then went to the ER and had a cat scan and needed emergency surgery and they said it nearly killed me.  it was an obstructed bowel. it happens when scar tissue/adhesions from previous abdominal surgery wraps around and "strangles" your small intestine. i thought they were going to tell me i had bad gas and send me home. you can read more about it on my profile. i just had the surgery on tuesday. i don't want to scare you, but it's the weekend, and the er is the best place to go because they have the best equipment. make sure you get a cat scan. call your surgeon first and tell them to call the er ahead of time and get it ready for you. let me know how it goes. jill

Yep, I vote for bowel obstruction, too.  I'm in nursing school and HONESTLY just got finished reading about bowel obstructions and those are CLASSIC  symptoms.  Go to the ER because if that is what it is, it could be life threatening.

Amber, sorry to hear you are experiencing this, hope all goes well.  I have to concur with the other posters, if you haven't gone yet please call you surgeon and head to the ER. Let us know how you are doing when you get a moment.

wow!  I just read all the replies. I was ready to tell you how I have it too.  Only I blow up and look like I'm 10 months pregnent.   And it finally goes away after a lot of gas passing.  That is IF I can get the gas to pass. so after reading all those replies they make me go UMMM.......I think I better let the surgeon know. thanks for bringing this up. hope you feel better.

Sorry I didn't see your replies sooner... I ended up laying on the couch and falling asleep. I feel less bloated today and no pain so far, but I feel worse I won't hesitate to go to the ER. My daughters birthday party is this afternoon so hopefully I"m ok!! Would it still be a an obstruction even if I"m still having bowel movements everyday??? Also, the only abdominal surgery I've had is the RNY and it was laprscopic....  ???

Amber, if you are passing gas and having BMs it wouldn't be a full obstruction but could be a partial or even a kink in your intestines.   Just to be safe, call your surgeon on Monday and discuss it with him.  I did see you had a protein bar.....is this one you are use to eating?  I have more gas and bloating with certain bars and it's very uncomfortable........it doesn't stay though after a while it is gone.

My rny was laproscopic. I used to get bad pains and they would always pass--the worst one lasting two days, but most lasting a few hours. My surgeon explained that your intestines are like "worms in a bag" and they squish around a lot moving and shifting, and it it's not a full obstruction, you get relief when they mush around. Mine finally became fully obstructed and there was no relief in sight. I was having bowel movements up to the morning of my surgery. Let us know what happens. (I'm not sure about this, but I think for them to see the obstruction you need to get the cat scan while you are in pain (before they shift around) that is why the ER is the best choice) Jill

Hi Amber! Not to give you any more to worry about, but it could also be the eary warning signs of an ulcer or erosion or stenosis/stricture... I have had all and they are not anything that you want! I'm glad you are calling your Dr., as it is obviously not something that is just going to "go away". I nearly died because I let these relatively (at the time) simple problems go on far too long until they became major complications (I nearly starved to death-for real, and later suffered a perforation of my intestine from the surgeries (25minor and 1 major in all and I could need more for the rest of my life)). If I had called my doctor when I first had problems (instead of dismissing it as gas/gas pains), Prevacid would likely have taken care of it... I hope you are ok and it turns out to be something simple... let us know Martha
