Current weight:120 and still 5'4
I hope it works for them. I work with kids like this everyday than come home to my son who has some major problems. he is a one on one at all times because of his impulsivities. never know what he is gonna do.
Look at your numbers... that protein rocks big time... and almost no carbs or fat.. sweet day for you.. that will get you back to goal..
Carla
Carla my grandson was diagnosed at 16 months so immed. daughter sought out the best in her area after we did thorough research online. Dr after Dr until she was comfortable with them.He was started immed. on Methyl B12 nose spray rather than injections and hyperbaric chamber (oxygen) in her home daily for 1 month. I swear this and his vitamin regiment along with gluten and wheat free diets made the difference. They are now incorporating some dairy and wheat over the last year and is working good. He has 40 hrs of therapy each week an also now attends daycare 1/2 day. A therapist if there 3/4 of the time he is at daycare and as you know it can reverse at any time. It's a consuming job for anyone but hats of to you and anyone who endures this task.
Wow sounds like you all are doing a great job. the most important thing is getting it early and teaching the proper cues and social skills they tend to not get. With that many kids can lead normal or near normal lives. I dont know if autism just goes away but, it can be minimized to not even detactable. Sounds like your grandson is doing great and I commend you all and doing everything you can to help him achieve the best he can be.
My son, on the other hand has been handed many blocks in his life. As you know he is adopted and I did not get him until he was four. He was found at a box at a train station, his mom and dad were both mentally ill and drug users. He was shipped from one foster care to the other before we got him. It was not clear when we got him what was wrong. Along with autism, bob is mildly delayed, has post tramatic stress disorder, OCD and severe ADHD. With this he is very self injurious and aggressive. It makes life pretty tough for all of us because he just doesnt have the capacity to understand and act on what he is being told. His impulsivities are his main block to developing and learning.
I love him more than life and we didnt know he had all these problems when we adopted him. He is ours and we will do whatever we can to give him the tools to be as independent as possible. I fear he will never be able to live on his own or go into the community without assistance. His impulsivities are just to high.
God bless you for all you do and have done for your grandson and good bless your family for staying strong, not giving up and giving him every chance to lead as normal of a life as he can.
Carla
Carla you are a very special person taking on this problem and doing the work you do. It takes tender loving care. Not just anyone can have compassion like this. I am just sorry my daughter had to inherit the daily ordeal of mental anguish and reponsibilities thrown at me with her dad's brain injury. If she ever thought I had it easy I am sure she has changed her opinion now. Have a great Saturday.

Some people just have the ability to say exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time...And they have no autism excuses either...I didn't snack today. Well, not like I usually do and so my numbers are low...Except that I ate a huge dinner tonight. I don't know what happened. I sat down to eat a taco salad and now I hurt. Hubby even said I ate alot for me. Raw green peppers, lettuce, raw red onions and chicken bits that were probably too over cooked and too hard for my pouch...And I probably didn't chew enough. I hurt. I hope I didn't do any damage...But I couldn't eat or drink another anything right now.
Breakfast: malto meal, protein powder, soy milk and coffee
Snack: V8 juice and a SoBe Living Way Protein drink (along with two other ones, 72 oz of liquid not counting the coffees)
Lunch: Hormel microwave chili with no beans - the whole container 15 ounces
Snack: Iced coffee, 11.5 oz can and 3 SF Peeps (well, I had to, they were asking for it...LOL)
Dinner: Chicken taco salad . about 2 cups and 1/4 cup of refried beans in there too. Bringing the total to 2 cups, I hurt.

Fat: 47
Carbs: 230 (chili was the high part, and the taco salad)
Protein: 113
Low on the protein today. Low all around except the carbs but they weren't bad carbs. Just too many.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

You are doing great.. I have hurt the old pouchy a couple times.. just be careful and you will be fine.. I know we all worry about over eating and stretching it out. I hear its not that easy to do.. but the fear is always there.
Be well
