Bone Density Scan Results

I have the results from my bone density test but have no idea what it really means. Findings: The patient's lumbar spine bone mineral density is 1.145g/cm2 thich is a T-score of +0.9. Left femoral neck bone mineral density is 0.842 g/cm2 which is a T-score of -0.1.  Total femoral bone mineral density is 0.986g/cm2 which is a T-score of +0.4. Impression: All of the readings are in the range of normal. So I'm guessing my calcium intake is working *shrug*......if anyone has knowledge or insight I'd appreciate it. I had labs drawn to, of course, some where drawn incorrectly so I go back tomorrow for Vitamin D, B-1, MMA and others.  So far everything is within range (good range) with the exception of ferritin being on the low end of the range.....I don't like that number so I'm working on a plan to increase my iron.

Well all those numbers tell you the thickness or density of the bone they looked at.  most times they look at the foot to see how your density is.  They now have the ability to test in other locations which is very nice.  I would say what they said.. seems pretty normal to me.  Working with the kind of people I work with I see a lot of these that are not so good.  Seizure meds and such take a real toll on their calcium intake. Glad to hear everything is coming back good so far. Keep it up girl. Carla

Glad yours are normal. Mine came up with mild osteopenia, and my gyno wants me to take Boniva, but I'm afraid of it - especially as it says it can cause ulcers.

My Ferritin was 20 on my last lab work which I understand is on the low side of normal.  i am taking Briatric Advantage Pasion Fruit Iron to try to get it up.  I was just wondering what are you doing to improve yours.   Patricia 262/125/138 hi/lo/today 5'1" 3-11-2005  RNY

Patricia, I haven't devised a game plan yet.....I got my labs in today.  I want to see where I was at when my last labs were drawn.  I am taking Tender Iron right now and probably will increase my daily dosage.

I had been taking Tender Iron, but I was not real faithful with it.  I tried to take it in the middle of the night so I would not be taking it with calcium, but sometimes did not get it in.  I am just looking at the bottle and do not see any Vit C in it.  I think we need to take Vit C with it. The Passion Iron has Vit C in it.  Maybe somebody will straighten us out on this.   Patricia

Patricia, yes the vitamin C is good to take for better absorption.  I take 2 chewable vitamin C with my Tender Iron.  How much of the Tender Iron where you taking per day?

I was taking one tablet and was not taking Vit C.  I thought it had Vit C in it till I read the bottle just now.  Sometimes I take two Passion Fruit now.  It makes me constipated.  Ugh  So I take a stool softener most days.  I have been through menopause and my surgeon told me I did not need iron after my surgery.  He has since changed his mind and tells his patients that they need the iron.  So I have not taken a lot of iron up til this time.  I guess I started about a year ago taking it sometimes.  Now I try to get in in every day.   Patricia

Whoa, I take 6 Tender Iron per day.........I was so faithful with my vitamins the first 2 years and have really slacked this past year.  I truly expected my labs to be worse since I haven't been consistant; I haven't stopped just have missed them frequently.   I haven't had much problem with the Tender Iron and constipation.....of course, I have NEVER been normal on potty issues........when I do feel the need to go and I can't I take MOM and it works well.

I really over did all the vitamins except the iron for the first two years.  When I went for my 2 1/2 year check up my doctor's PA told me to back off the B, A, E and D Vits.  I was over the limits.  I did as she said and my labs were in a normal range for my 3 year labs.   I take B12 shots once a month, but I was also taking other B, A and D Vits.  I guess I was getting too much E from multi Vitamin.  Vit E is a blood thinner, so I was warned not get too much of it.   I quit the extra B, A and D vits. I put UpCal D in my protein drinks and I drink a lot of them.  Also a lot of the protein drinks have vitamins in them.    My bone density test was good.   I had been taking Fosamax D, but my GYN took me off it.
