Weight gain after receiving IV fluids?

I was in the hospital for a week, got out Friday, on Tuesday while I was there I received 20 hours of IV fluids for hydration and N-acetylcysteine by IV for other reasons. Since being home the scale is up almost 10 lbs and staying steady and I'm wondering if it was from the IV fluids as I didn't eat more than usual while at the hospital, and how long it takes for one's body to rid themselves of that weight or if it just stays on? And if there is anything I can do to help flush myself out besides drinking extra water which I am trying to do, thanks.

Just be patient.... every surgery I've had I came home 10+ lbs heavier from fluids.  It'll take a few days to go away but it will. Kathy

I, too, was on IV fluids twice since WLS and both times I came home with an extra 10 pounds But, happily, both times the excess was gone in about a week.  Just try not to let it get to you mentally, because it really isn't related to your long term journey, just a little bump in the road.

of course it's from the i.v. silly it can't be from you or anything you did. Anytime they "rehydrate" y ou they puff those cells up so that they are reconstituted (think of a sponge) a hydrated cell is a happy cell! It could take about 2 weeks to get rid of all the excess fluids, just up your fluids so your cells know they dont' have to retain the fluids to get more. ANDI

My first experience with that was when I had RNY. I came home from the hospital several pounds heavier than I was on surgery day. I was extremely P.O.'d and called everybody. "Who the h-e-l-l gains weight after gastric bypass except me?" But then I saw where everybody else did it too. I bet it'll be gone in a few days.

It's normal I had a simple day procedure done and I came home 7 pounds heavier than I went in on the same day.  It took 5-7 days to loose.  I just tended to pee more than usual than everything went back to normal.
