wrap around stoma

Does anyone else out there (and maybe everyone does and I just didn't know it) have a piece of their own tendon from their thigh wrapped around their stoma and secured their like a rubber band cinching around that so it doesn't stretch out over time? Let me know. Thanks.

well, its pretty obvious in that I have  a 3 inch scar on my thigh :-) Anyway, I went to a center of excellence, so I feel fine about it.  The idea is that if your stoma never gets any larger, you won't stretch it out and therefore draining from your pouch is inhibited.

Do you feel like it's worked? That you have more restriction than someone else as far out as you? Jenn.

I think so, but it's hard to say. I think for sure that sliders have the same effect on me as anyone---go right through relatively quickly.  But if I don't drink around mealtimes, then I can only take in about 3/4 cup and that's it--not a drop more. and even that is a push. I had my surgery almost 2 years ago now.

If it counts, I've heard of that being a newer addition to surgeries to avoid stretching of the stoma.  Sounds like an interesting concept to me! Kathy

I wonder if thats similar concept to those who get a ring below their stoma? I believe its done in conjunction with the VSG? There is a surgeon here in my area that puts the ring so the stoma wont stretch but its plastic (I think?) not from the persons body. I could be all sorts of wrong thou - lol!
