I had never heard of the 5-day pouch test until someone referred me to this forum, as I have begun gaining weight.  I have gained 20 pounds.  Does this really work?  Does it help you lose weight and get on track?

I used the pouch test to get rid of cravings and get back on track. It is not meant to make you lose weight, but to stop the cravings and return the pouch to its former sensitivity. When I did it, I regained the ability to dump, lost all cravings and appetite was lessened. Now Im on tracka nd losing again, after a holiday gain of twelve pounds. So far I have lost 4.5 of those and its been two weeks, so Im happy. Im over two and a half years out, and the pouch test reallyhleped me. Go to www.5daypouchtest.com to research it. Blessings Betsy

Sharim, Totally do it girl!!!  Get yourself back on track!  I just finished the 5DPT on Friday and I love the results.  Did I lose everything that I put on? No, but I am well on my way, and dont constantly eat anymore!!!   ~J.

Yayy!  I am so happy for you!  I am going to try the test.  I think I will wait until I plateau, though. I have changed things the past few day (no diet pepsi, no chocolate), eating right, drinking crystal light.  I also am decreasing my antidepressant very, very slowly, and I feel like my metabolism is up again!  I have lost 6 pounds. I also have been going to the Y to walk 4 out of 5 nights.  I can feel the difference! Shari

I was personally not impressed with the 5dpt. I tried it more to see what it was about than anything. I was never really 'off track'.. just wanted to see what this was about. I know its reccomended a lot so if it was really a good tool I wanted to know about it so I could share. I am allowed a decent amount of carbs a day so those keep me more than happy. Heres my review - The good - it does remind you of the rules and make you more aware of your pouch. IMO you can do that without doing the 5dpt... simply by slowing down, measuring your meals and learning to 'hear' your pouch again. It reminds you to not eat/drink which again you can do on your own. Many people lose weight on this but any time you guy carbs you lose *water weight* when you add the carbs back, the water comes back so the scale goes back up... now if you are going carb crazy cut back on the carbs and you should see the scale drop - some people say the 5dpt will break the 'carb craving cycle' so if thats you and going 'cold turkey' works for you this could be something worth your time. The bad - I stuck thru the 5 days lost 6lbs... the first day after the 5dpt I ate a salad and paid dearly - stomach cramps, diarreah... I had to run back and forth to the bathroom numerous times (I was at work!)... it was a simple salad, nothing in it that should have had that effect. I had tummy/bathroom issues for 3-4 days after going back to 'normal' post-WLS eating... also the scale went up 5lbs so I did have a loss of 1lb, but it did eventually come back as well.

Try the 5DPT to get rid of the carbs and back to eating the right way again. Once you do this test you are forced back on track and the results are just amazing to those of us who fell far off track and didn't realize just how far off we were.  Once you finish the test, and get back some of that new post op feeling, you can begin to lose weight just by eating right and making good choices. It's so easy to just give into old habits a little at a time... You are not going to see a rapid weight loss although you might lose a few water pounds temporarily. This test just makes it easier to start eating the way you should without the sugar and carb cravings...That was the hardest part to get passed (at least it was for me) Once you have no severe cravings...and your pouch feels tighter...it just gives the confidence and boost you need! I lost 7-10 within the month I did the test...I had a little trouble with bouncing around 3 lbs up and down and finally got that under control by monitoring my daily calories and intake...and by adding a protein supplement to bring my protein higher and carbs lower...It really did help me.   You have your hands full!  So try the test for five days and see if that doesn't help you get back to eating the proper way first...DRINK LOTS of water inbetween meals too!  PLEASE take your vitamins and supplements!
