Rny Revision ?

Has anyone out there had a revision on RNY where they stretch what is left of your intestine making it basically a straight shot to your anus?  I know too much information! This is the best way I have of interpreting what the doc explained to me.  He said some people have a constant problem with diarreha after this procedure. I have had contant constipation since the RNY so I am hoping for a happy medium. I have lost about 135 pounds since my surgery in July, '05. I have worked hard but have not been able to get the scale to move any further. I still weigh around 246 so still have plenty to lose. I have maintained this weight for about a year now and desperately want to lose more. I have been approved by the insurance company for surgery on May6. Let me know if any one else has had this procedure. If so what were your results?

I don't know anything about it, but there is a revision board that you might post on. Good Luck Patricia

It sounds like the RNY to DS.  Is that what it is? Or is the surgeon suggesting by passing more of the intestines? I agree with the first post. You should go to the revisions they are full of the exact kind of info you need. Best of luck

He can be talking about revising your "proximal RNY" to a "distal RNY".  They are both RNY surgeries but there is more intestine bypassed with a distal than with a proximal.  Google it and you should be able to find some info.

Obviously, don't have this surgery until you know exactly what it is, and what the risks of revision are. Did your doctor tell you you'll be malabsorbing much more, and warn you you'll need to be really vigilant about taking vitamins and keeping up with your labs??  If this hasn' t been covered either, you'll want to check on that also before having this surgery so you know what's involved.
